Hot Tools Pro Artist 24K Gold Marcel Iron | Long Lasting Curls, Waves (3/4 in)

I have been buying Hot Tools marcel irons for years. If you have hair that won't keep a curl, this is a great iron. It gets really hot and makes nice lasting curls. This barrel is 1.25 inches around which makes a nice soft curl. The iron is the same length as any curling iron and has an extra long cord making it easier to move around the bathroom. After learning how to use a marcel, I can never go back to spring irons again. With marcel grips, you can control the curl so much better and clip the hair much tighter. This is the least expensive marcel I have found and it works like any professional iron.

I have used these curling irons daily for years and I really like them. Hope they never go out of style.

First off, if you've never used a Marcel-style iron before, understand it is a bit different. First time I got one it was by accident and if it hasn't been for needing it immediately for an imminent wedding, I probably would have returned it! I'm so glad I didn't because once you adjust to it, you'll never go back. In fact using the old spring-clip style will seem clumsy, unwieldy and SLOW. This particular version has a nice grip, heats up fast, and has a very nice range of temperatures from just hot to VERY hot. I recommend you experiment and use the lowest heat which is effective for your hair type. Also be sure to click the unlock button when you try it the first time or you'll never get the hang if it. Before long you'll be flicking your wrist like a pro, churning out curls in seconds. The other great thing is that it stays consistently hot from one curl to the next, where many irons can't keep up, cooling as you work and taking more seconds per subsequent curl. The 1" barrel is also an excellent size for natural looking not-too-tight, not-too-loose curls. Honestly the only thing I preferred about my 10 year old version was that the cord came out dead center at the base of the iron, while this one is off- center, but please. That's not even worth deducting a star for! Hope this was helpful in your decision. Cheers!

I was so excited to get this curling iron it works so good it amazing like it works miracles because my hair will not hold a curl for nothing and I get curled hair i have to make sure that the curls are cooldown before I run my fingers through my hair this curling iron take a little practice to get to use it but once you get the hang of doing it is really easy the reason it takes practice is because this curling iron doesn’t have a spring to hold the bar down you have to use it almost like you were using chop sticks lol

Not my most favorite but it works well. I prefer the BaByliss Marcel curling iron because it has more grip on the handle and I feel like it works better. Nice appearance, the curls are pretty but they fall out fast (my hair just doesn’t hold curl very well though)

I have been considering going to cosmetology school and heard from many cosmetology students that using a Marcel curling iron was one of the hardest things to get used to, so I thought I would get one to practice with. For context, I’ve never done well with regular curling irons because my hand/wrist coordination never cooperated and I’d end up more frustrated than anything. I was amazed that after I got the hang of this, it was so easy to use and curl my hair quickly. Because of how a marcel iron is designed, you can do the curling motion without turning your wrist and apparently that was the game changer I needed. Now for this particular curling iron— I love that you can control the temperature. I have fine/thin hair so I don’t need it to be that hot, plus my hair is damaged so I don’t want to fry it off completely. It heats up fairly quickly and is comfortable to hold in my hand. I love the stand, so it doesn’t damage my getting ready table. I always use leave-in conditioner or a hairspray with heat protectant before using it, but it’s easy to clean off any residue from the iron.

Worst curling iron I have ever tried. Would not hear enough, even on its highest setting to produce a smooth curl that lasts. Also the iron feels very cheap, like it would fall apart with too much use. Sadly I will be returning it.

I am a hair dresser and have used marcel irons for a very long time. The gold irons are the best for frizz control. They do not leave the hair dry and brittle like ceramic. I have always found the marcel wand easiest to maneuver, but some may need to get used to using it.

I used several curling iron, curling rolls and the wand but none of them can give me the long lasting beautiful curls. At the end, my hair was damaged and dried out like straw. Not even mentioned my hair turned straight within 2 hours. I've heard about a lot of good feedback of Hot Tools Curling Iron from online and my friends, which made me want to try it. After done some research online, I decided to give the Hot Tools Marcel Curling Iron a try. It's a little bit hard to learn how to use it properly at the first place if you never use a Marcel curling iron, like me. It's quite different from the regular Spring curling iron. I saw a few negative feedback regarding the Spring needs to be replaced after 4-6 months use. I don't want to take a chance. The beautiful curls lasted more than 24 hours when I just use the medium high heat (370 F). Plus, I DID NOT use any holding spray! The only product I put on my hair is the heat protector spray before curl my hair! After I wash my hair, I can feel my hair is a little bit dry but not as bad as other curling irons did to my hair. After I deep condition my hair, it feels soft and shining again. I cannot go back to other Curling Iron. This one is a bit heavier than my other curling irons. I will look into other different sizes of the Hot Tools Curling Iron. My suggestion is always try to test from the lowest heat and slowly goes up to find out which heat level is the best for your hair and holding the curls because every one's hair is different. Always, always use a heat protector spray before start to curling your hair. Do NOT curl the hair while it's still damp unless you want to burn your hair off. BTW, I am not a professional hair stylist but I love to find a great curling tool which I believe I finally found one this time. I am happy with my purchase!
