Nite Ize Steelie® Orbiter™ Magnetic Socket + Metal Plate

I've been using Nite Ize Steelie mounts for years and keep coming back to them because they're simple, reliable, and hold securely. In the past, I attached the included metal plate to the back of my phone. This time, I modified a Bulletpoint Mounting Solutions setup by installing the Steelie magnetic socket onto the end of the Bulletpoint mount and attached the magnetic component directly to my phone case. The result has been an extremely secure and flexible setup that works well both on and off the road. The magnetic connection is strong, positioning the phone is quick and easy, and I like that there are no spring-loaded clamps or bulky arms to deal with. It makes one-handed mounting and removal effortless. After years of using various phone mounts in trucks, SUVs, and daily drivers, the Steelie system remains one of my favorites. If you're willing to think a little outside the box, it also integrates well with other mounting

Very good and quality item

Great improvement over the regular Steelie in my opinion. Flat disk can even be sandwiched between a (thin) case and the phone without using adhesive. Only issue so far is getting the alignment right. Magnet is very strong and will grab even when not lined up, which can cause an alarming shift on position - sometimes when nudged, it appears to be falling, but is just the magnet getting a better "grip" on the disk. Phone and disk easily pull away when wanted, without taking the magnet with it. No more change or keys stuck to phone in pocket...!

Having the magnet on the back of my phone has never been an issue for me although I know some people are dead against it. After getting a new case that wouldn’t allow for the magnet I decided to take the leap and switch to using the newer system where you just have a metal plate on the back of the phone and the magnet stays on the ball. Still means I can use my pedestal stands and car ball mount ( I bought two) but I do miss not having the magnet on the phone so I can attach it to metal objects. Overall I say this is a good way to transition to a more sleek solution without giving up your old steelie accessories.
