Expensive, but worth it
Expensive, but worth it, especially if you want to bend strings on your U-bass

Excellent Strings.
Bought to replace the rubber strings on my semi acoustic practice U base. They have literally transformed the instrument with an incredible improvement in sound quality. They are also much easier to play than the old rubber strings. So far they have been very durable as I have used them extensively and they are not showing any wear and they hold their tuning very well. I was a bit apprehensive about fitting steel strings to a wooden U base but they fitted very easily and I have never had a problem.

Expensive but the only ones I will use on my Kala U bass
The rubber and synthetic strings had a horrible feel. The round wound were very noisy (fret noise) these Flat wound are great.

These flatwound strings for the U-Bass are awesome! They brought my old mahogany Kala U-Bass back to life and back into regular use. I bought the bass back in 2012 and was initially very excited about it. My excitement faded quickly, however. I could never get the original black rubbery ("Road Toad Pahoehoe") strings that came on it to stay in tune for very long. And I could never get used to the way that they would roll when pressed against the fretboard. Frustrated, I put it aside after a month or two. A year or so later, I loaned it to my brother. Finding the same frustrations, he stuffed it into a closet. Then, a few weeks ago, a video about U-Basses popped up in my YouTube feed. I learned that, in the years since I had essentially abandoned my U-bass, a number of new types of strings had been developed for it. I ordered these strings, retrieved my U-Bass from my brother, and installed them. What a difference! These strings stay in tune, don't roll when fretted, are louder acoustically, and get a great upright-like tone. They were very easy to install and, considering that flatwound strings last for years, the somewhat higher cost was very much worth it. If you are frustrated with the black rubbery strings and/or would like a clearer and louder tone, give them a try!

Took over 6 weeks to arrive but the strings themselves are excellent. Just installed a few days ago. Staying in tune now after a few days of stretch, tune and repeat. They sound fantastic! Pop a piece of sponge under the strings, next to the bridge, for some double bass sounding thumpy magic

The A string, second thickest had faulty winding that when tensioned allowed loose coil to move back and forth around 1cm at bridge end. This rattle caused undamoable buzzing making it unusable, also unlikely to allow for a long service life for such an expensive string. This was not caused by stretching over saddles as I repeatedly lifted the string to relieve when installing. I ordered a replacement set as I firstly didn't want to wait for the return process (thankfully as the refund had to be manually processed after 30 Days even though Auspost logged the item as delivered to Amazon 2nd day after posting, the item never updated as received) secondly I wanted to ensure that I was covered if one or more of the replacement was faulty. I installed replacement set using two pieces of parchment paper between string and saddles to ensure no gripping of flat wire could cause opening of windings. The replacement A was ok, but the thinnest G had a similar issue closer to the head end. Also there was an inconsistency of over an inch in length overall, as well as between ball and silk. In short it took a double order to get a working set, and nearly two months for the whole transaction to be finalised. Amazon's service was fine, the problem here is with the product. Final setup of strings is good, definitely preferable to rubber type $100 aud is ok in the end, but no way would I say with this inconsistency in quality control they are worth the gamble with their store retail of approx $180 aud

First off, all three strings that work, are amazing. Sound, feel, and look fantastic. It's just that after I installed them on my fretless U-bass, I noticed that windings were sliding up and down the A-string core causing a grinding feel and noise when I used that string. Kinda ruins the playability overall. I just submitted a request to Kala to see about getting a replacement. So we'll see that they say. The attached video will show what I'm talking about.
