MARMOT Men's Minimalist Lightweight Waterproof Rain Jacket

First, this color is awesome, nice clean look and the jacket looks good on as well.I'm a 6'3" tall guy who tips the scale at 260 which means that, I'm always concerned about how something is going to fit and if it's going to be too hot for me to wear while I'm being active. This jacket seems to have found the sweet spot. It blocks wind and rain but breathes well enough (with pit zips) to have the layers underneath control the temperature that I'm at and none of that, frantic sweaty feeling where you feel like you're trapped inside a rapidly heating plastic bag.I bought XXL and it fits well. Sleeves come down a bit past my wrist and falls below my belt line front and back. The front pocket is roomy enough that carrying a cell phone in it doesn't feel awkward and roomy enough to layer underneath it. No loop inside the jacket for hook hanging, but the hood seems to work well enough for that to me.Things I'd think about if I were comparing? The hood doesn't stow, is that going to be important to you? Just the three pockets and no insulation of any kind, this is a simple rain/wind shell. It will do that really well for you, but if you run cold, the opposite problem that I have, I might think about something that has a bit more padding of some kind built in.Only complaint so far? I think that the velcro that allows you to narrow the sleeve opening is a bit underpowered, but that's a good trade off for lower weight and ease in stuffing into a bag.Easily the best, simple, rainjacket I've owned in terms of kickin' arse in the rain while looking good. Very happy with it.

Best rain jacket I've ever owned. I was reading reviews of guys having zero problems with theirs for 10 years. I hope to have many dry years in this thing. It has a lot more room in it than I anticipated, but It leaves extra space for layers which are a must. I love this Jacket and never leave home without it.5 Year Update: This thing is a tank. I have some seams that are starting to come away from the gortex backing, maybe I can send it in to Marmot to fix it up a bit, but it's still 100% waterproof. I get compliments on the casual nature of the jacket from my friends who are into gear and I got a real nice compliment from a guy at work who was asking for recommendations on a rain jacket. "Your black one is awesome, I want something like that." So $150/5 years is $30/year of use. Definitely money well spent. I truly believe I can get another 5 out of this bad boy. This thing has been packed into small bags, in torrential downpours, up and down mountains and on hunting trips through the brush. Goes with me everywhere. Love this jacket.

I have had one of these jackets for many years. It had saved me many times. It is great by itself, or over a fleece vest or jacket when it is really cold (Texas weather mind you). in my opinion it is water proof and wind proof. However, I made the mistake of leaving it in the trunk of my car for several years and our Texas heat did a number on the seam tape and liners. Then, I washed it in the washer and the tape and liner disintegrated! What a mess. So, I have purchased a new one and promise to treat it better. If you want a good, quality rain/wind jacket, this is the one.

I really enjoy the jacket because it provides great rain protection, and it can be worn at any time. It is not meant to be worn in very cold weather, I usually get cold just wearing this jacket under 50 degrees, but it is the best rain jacket I've worn in warm weather because it breathes well. I have had issues with it not blocking wind well which can be problematic in colder weather.

I'm 5'10 172 lbs. athletic build, Medium fits me great but very little room for layering so I decided to get large which is perfect. This Jacket performed very well during my commute( riding bicycle) to and from work and every day use. First day of use during a heavy rain as expected this jacket did not disappoint, very impressed with the quality. As per the technical specification, if you are using this for activities such as hiking, biking or running you are going to have to use the pit zips to regulate you temperature and moisture build up inside the jacket. Just wish it has bigger pit zip opening vents, once the jacket is fully closed with the hood on breathability of the Gore-Tex fabric performs at a minimal level which is almost taking a shower with your own sweat ( this of course depends on the outside temperature and the base layer you are wearing. Inboard Gore-Tex material stains very easy, a pain to clean up even after a wash. Other than that the jacket is amazing, activating the DWR is as simple as throwing it in the drying machine for a few minutes on medium heat, have yet to reapply DWR maybe in a few months. I would recommend this jacket to any one, just keep in mind what activities you are in for this jacket has it's limitation.

Full disclosure: I did not wear this jacket in the rain. I bought it and another brand and tried both in the shower. As you can see in the included photos, while most of the water beaded on the outside of this jacket, some of it bled through at the shoulders. This after only about a minute in the shower.While this was not a real-world test, it was certainly sufficient to eliminate any confidence I might have about staying dry in this product during a rainstorm.
