Thoughts on sc-100 vs. beginner for a 6 year old? afaict, diffs are: sc-100 has more parts and more projects; beginner has easier diagrams

We bought the beginner set for our then 5 year old daughter. She loved it so much we purchased the sc-100, loved that one too and she now has several sets (now she's 6), each newer one harder than the last. Start out with the beginner, if your child shows interest, then move up. These are a great way to introduce STEM to young children without being overly hard. I will also add these sets are pretty cool.

Did anyone else have this product not work right out of the gate? Fresh batteries, tried two different sets of new batteries. Any suggestions?

Elenco, the company that makes Snap Circuits, is great. They offer free replacement parts. All you have to do is go to the Snap Circuits homepage, then go to Support and fill out the replacement part request form. Right out of the box I dropped my son's light-up fan motor and the top came off. I requested a new one via their site and got it about a week later. Totally free. : )

I am very interested in giving one of these sets to my grandson. My grandson does not like loud sounds-will he be able to control the sound or not use

Sound is not a big part of the projects in this first kit. Most of the projects turn on lights or the whirling lighted fan. There are a few projects that beep when you push a button, but if he doesn't like the sound he can just push the button once and then move on to the next project.

Does it come with the clear board to put the items on?

Yes, the clear board you see in the photos is included. Son really loves it. (Age 6)
