4-Port 10/100M POE Extender

Great product, however there should be a way to protect them from lightning. Any sizzle down the road zaps these and I have to keep extras.

I just bought the third extender. Each extender allows me to add up to 3 additional cameras near an existing one without running any long wires back to the POE+ switch.

Make sure you have a POE plus or POE injector with enough power to support end devices. I have successfully installed 1 cable and serviced 4 cameras over POE.

Solid device. Good value for money. Used it to connect more camera's to one cable.

It's not super obvious from the title or description of this product, but I'm happy to confirm that it IS what I was hoping: The product should be titled "A PoE-powered PoE-sourcing ethernet switch". Yes, there's no power jack on this guy. You power it with PoE and it will power downstream devices as well. That makes it perfect for a place where you have only run ethernet, and already PoE a device there, but want to add another. I have a telecom bay that does have its own power, but has a few devices I need to power via PoE so that they stay up during a power outage. I only have a few ethernet lines there, and I can't split them all with a normal switch without causing it to go down and strand the important devices during an outage. My hacky solution thus far was to use a PoE splitter in front of a switch that can be powered by the splitter, which also feeds a passive PoE bus which then re-injects some juice downstream of the switch. It's awful. With this device, I can replace all that junk with this switch and keep my 802.3af-compliant PoE downstream. I have not tried stressing it in terms of power delivery (not a problem for me), but I will say that it barely gets warm, which makes me hopeful that it is quite efficient and doesn't waste whatever power it gets and can pass as much along to the downstream devices as possible. The metal case with mounting tabs is perfect for my use-case and it feels quite solid. LEDs on all ports let you know what's going on. If I had one complaint, it's that it's not GigE, but 10/100 only. That's not really a problem for what I need to use it for, but I would definitely prefer to have at least a GigE uplink port.

I have 4 of these installed in my very large network of 60+ IP cameras. By their very nature, they are located at the ends of long runs where additional cameras were required without having to run additional long cat6 lines back to the PoE+ switches. Without fail, anytime we get a significant lightning storm, I lose at least one of these guys. It's a running joke, and at this point, I actually run to unplug the cables going into the extender to prevent the damage. I'd say it's the installation location, but no other cameras or switches have failed with any of these storms. At their minimal cost, it's not a big deal, but I do with there was a way to harden them. I've considered adding opto-isolation fiber bridges, but they cost multiples of what the extender costs. So, instead, I opt to bleed to death from a 1000 paper cuts. I have reached out (in vain) to the seller via Amazon messaging to ask if there is anything I can do to prevent the damage, but have not heard back from them (after two weeks).

Used for poe cams and had no issues, plug and play . Easily done.
