Does the pencil attach to the side of the iPad? Is the pencil metallic and/or magnetic to attached to iPad?

IPad Pro 11" model A1980, the pen does NOT attach magnetically. This is a deal breaker for someone who's a pilot and uses it on a knee board while in flight. Everything else worked fine, but it will NOT attach magnetically even though some reviews indicate it will. One other note, I saw a video review and the box was black with the Jamjake company name on it. Mine came in a plain white box with very generic info.
