Gam3Gear S-Video Cable Compatible with Nintendo GameCube, N64, and SNES

Works great on my SNES. I tried a different s-video SNES cable and saw what looked like interference and distortion. But the picture from this cable is sharp and clear on my 50" LCD. For the price, the result is excellent. If you're looking at video output options on the SNES, here are your choices: 1) RF (coaxial cable and converter box that came with every new SNES and plugs into the antenna/cable jack on your TV) 2) composite (plugs into the multi-out on the SNES and into the yellow RCA video jack on your TV) 3) s-video (plugs into the multi-out on the SNES and into the s-video jack on your TV) 4) component (a specially designed cable from hdretrovision that plugs into multi-out and into the Y/Pb/Pr jacks on your TV) 5) mods that let you output HDMI, RGB, etc. Requires soldering/cutting/rewiring. There is a incredible difference between the picture from this s-video cable and my old stock SNES composite cable. I'm very happy with the return on my money. I was debating going to the next step in quality, component Y/Pb/Pr cables from hdretrovision. I'm glad I didn't. This s-video cable was a fraction of the price and gives a result I'm very happy with. If I sit a few feet from the TV, I can see a little bit of blur and some color issues that would be cleared up by using a component cable. But it’s very minor. Update 3/29/2018: I recently replaced this cable with an expensive component cable. Component cables give a brighter image. The image is also slightly more sharp. Overall, I’d say that this s-video cable is the best option unless you’re a perfectionist and willing to pay $50+.

I was looking for an S-video cable to run for my Gamecube. I'm not hip enough to have the original model for which there is a component cable available. I have a similar S-video cable I use for SNES which came with my Retrotink 2X-Pro that I have been very happy with that I was able to compare this product to. I'm glad to say that the quality appears to be on par with that one. If you're not sure why you should use S-video for your SNES, Gamecube, or N64, it's because it is a big improvement over RCA cables anywhere where the two are your only viable and/or affordable options. With an upscaler (and filter, really) like the Retrotink 2X-Pro, S-video looks pretty good, actually, and keeps you below what seems to be a price jump for not that much more quality, at least if you more or less are content with similar picture quality to a good CRT (but without the sexy scanlines, unless you are planning to hook this cable up directly to a CRT and not an upscaler).

After ordering a cable from another manufacturer which had extremely poor quality and failed right out of the package, getting this one as a replacement was a great relief. This cable seems to be built very well. It does not feel cheap at all, and has been performing flawlessly for me over the last week or so. The picture with S Video is a massive improvement over the composite cable I had for my SNES. Everything looks much more sharp and clean. The wording in many games was very blurry with the composite cables I had, and there was a ton of color bleed. With this cable, the words are crystal clear and much easier to read, and the color bleeding is virtually gone. There is also no checker boarding whatsoever from interference, although I don’t know how much the TV one uses plays into that though. I am currently using this cable with my SNES, on an older 55” HD Mitsubishi rear projection TV, but with that said, if I can see very little color bleed, and very clear wording when the image is being blown up to 55 inches, I’d say this cable is doing its job well.

I was skeptical as hell about these cables. I could not justify the money on getting official Nintendo s-video or even remotely the GCN component cables off amazon or ebay. I mostly bought these for my gamecube but I also have an N64 I wanted to test them on. As for the gamecube. It made the picture look really good. I don't notice any checker boarding at all. they are a really nice upgrade over composite cables. So color me shocked to find out these work great for my gamecube. Now I only wish component cables didn't cost as much as they do :( thankfully I have a Wii with component cables for all the 480p gamecube games I have. As for the results on my N64 (I was going to order a second set if they worked out). Sadly the results on my N64 were not as noticeable. But then again the N64 has not aged quite as well and tends to look like crap on any modern display. As they say "You can only polish a turd so much". So with all that said, aside from the issues I have with the N64. The only other "issue" I have with this cable is the connector (the end that goes into your console) is a little loose. its not a snug fit like the Nintendo OEM cables are. It should still be fine as long as you don't juggle your console around while playing games on them. But over all these are pretty good for the money. a nice upgrade over RF and composite but wont break the bank like the official Nintendo s-video or even worse the gamecube component cables. They have clearly upgraded this cable to have 2 ground pins instead of just the 1 as other review here have talked about. There also was not any noticeable audio hum or anything else like that or at least none that I noticed. Only reason I didn't give it a 5 out of 5 was because of the connector not fitting as snuggly as the stock cable. Id give them a 4.8 out of 5 so far.

Using with SNES on a Sony Bravia. So far working well, audio is good, no input lag that I can detect, and a clear picture. Using this with a scaler made it pop a little more, but this works very well by itself. Just remember to set your TV to 4:3 so the pixels don't stretch.

Got this S-video cable as an upgrade for my GameCube (and N64, though I haven't tested that yet) and I was blown away by how much sharper the image is over the old composite AV cables on my 27" Trinitron. I wanted to try the Retro Prism Component cable too, but switching between that and this Gam3Gear S-Video cable, I honestly preferred the latter (which is $50 cheaper). The Prism Component cable made colors darker/less saturated in-game, and would not display correctly when booting into Swiss. I returned the Prism, but I just ordered another one of these Gam3Gear cables to use for my N64... Now just to find where all stored all my game carts!

Absolute trash. Didn’t work right out of the bag. Wasn’t able to make the return window so I just wasted my money. Would give 0 stars if I could.

This is your best option for playing GameCube games on a modern television, if your HDTV has the S-Video input. I recently got my GameCube out of storage (AKA: at my relative's house), and when I plugged it in with composite cables (Red, Yellow, White), the picture was dark and murky. I'm not expecting a console released in 2001 to have stunning HD graphics, but with composite cables I had to turn the brightness all the way up just to see what I was doing in Metroid Prime. I thought component cables would be a nice upgrade, but it turns out Nintendo only made about three of these, and they used a special chip in the cable that cannot be reproduced through third party companies, so your only choice if you want a set of these is to pay $300 or more on eBay. On top of this, Nintendo straight up removed the digital port in all GameCube consoles after the launch model, so even if you had a set you'd be screwed if your GameCube didn't have the right digital out port. My console doesn't have this port, so in addition to this being absurdly expensive, it's not an option anyway. But my TV also has an S-Video port, and this cable is perfect. When I bought it I paid $5, and the picture is nice and bright! It's basically night and day, since the composite cables really make Eternal Darkness live up to its name. But with this cable I booted up X-Men Legends, and it looked great. Not modern I-see-all-the-hair-follicles great, but this is probably the best way to play a GameCube these days if it will work with your TV. If it doesn't, my backup choice would have been to use enKo's Mini Composite to HDMI Converter. It's pricier at $36, but if you don't have S-Video it will take those old composite cables and convert the signal to HDMI. I haven't used this converter, but if this cables hadn't been a significant improvement, I would have tried this next. In short, get this cable if you want to play GameCube games on an HDTV.

Works as it should, was able to connect my N64 to my Retrotink 4K CE just fine

I am very happy with my cable. I have an LG 4K tv and am using a $35 amazon composite/s-video cable to hdmi. With this setup the picture is clear with no checker boarding. No lag either. I am very happy so far and would recommend as the picture quality is much better, especially for the GameCube.

I'm not sure why my cable shows image in black and white, no colour. I am using a pal super Nintendo on a pal TV, and from understanding this cable should be compatible, only states pal N64 not compatible. I read there could be something wrong with the chroma signal inside the cable as this signal produces colour but I tested it for continuity and the cable was fine. It seems others have mostly had success getting a picture with colour, I only came across one other review were the picture had no colour! The rest just complained of checkerboarding. Either way very disappointed with the lack of information on this but great full Amazon were able to refund me. P.s even though I had no colour with this S video cable I noticed a big difference in how sharp the pixels looked compared to composite, also I hardly noticed any checkerboarding unless up close, it's very fai t on this cable. Just a shame it's black and white

Thin, cheaply made cables that have a lot of interference. There’s very bad checkerboarding that makes the image look like hot garbage on my PAL N64. It appears the quality varies a lot as I also have the same brand cable for my NTSC N64 and there is no checkerboarding and the image quality is good. Buying this brand can be a gamble so you might be disappointed.
