This is the Jerry can that actually pours fast, will last, and doesn't leak (so far)
We needed a quality gas can that would accompany our UTV on our many forays deep into the backcountry. After cheaping out on a no-name Euro-style, pseudo-Jerry gas can (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0DY7BXPZY), I was so disappointed in the construction quality and shortcuts taken that I didn't even try to do a leak test on it. Like most of the cheaper pseudo-Jerry cans, it had a protruding marriage seam where the two halves were welded together - including on the bottom of the can so it wouldn't sit flat on a horizontal surface. Back it went the next day and I ordered this Euro-type mostly NATO spec Wavian can made in Latvia. It cost almost twice as much as the one I sent back, but. It has the recessed marriage seam and definitely has thicker metal, better workmanship, and thicker paint. As they say, you get what you pay for. We filled it up and took it on a full-day shakedown test in Idaho's backcountry mounted on our UTV. The 40-mile round trip on the trailer was 50% stop-and-go traffic and 50% at interstate speeds with lots of winding curves. Next came the 65-mile round trip from the trailhead over rough, rocky, runoff carved backcountry roads. These roads were often off-camber, jilting side-to-side, plenty of bouncing up and down, including crawling over the occasional fallen tree limbs crossing our path, etc. it was like a poor man's version of a shake table experiment. As best as I could tell, the can didn't leak a drop. Note that we did take advantage of the safety pin that holds the lid tightly shut. It works and I highly recommend you use it. What I didn't like: 1. The plastic storage clip for the pour nozzle comes uninstalled and doesn't hold the nozzle well at all. Someone might make some good coin by selling one that will. Make it out of non-ferrous sheet metal please. ๐๐ป 2. The accompanying pour spout fell a little short (pun intended). It fit the can fine and didn't leak but I found it too short for some applications. On the positive side, it is self venting and you don't have to Dremel off part of the vent because this Euro can is true to NATO spec and doesn't have the dubious plastic spark arrester in the way. Some reviewers have commented about the detached small diameter plastic pour adapter being ridiculously hard or impossible to insert into the end of the larger plastic pour nozzle. I agree. However, it took 3 minutes on the drill press putting chamfers on the mating ends of the nozzle and adapter to made it tolerable. Yes, they still fit snugly but it was no longer ridiculously difficult to attach and detach the adaptor. See attached pics. I can imagine using the adapter for better control filling smaller tanks like a 4-cycle power washer, a portable Honda generator, a lawn mower, a snow blower, etc. For more gas thirsty applications, we ordered a longer Euro-type spout at additional cost. In my opinion, it should be offered as an option on this Jerry can for those who value the versatility and accessibility the longer length provides (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B081HZGDDD). It too comes with that same useless plastic storage clip. ๐ Edit 6/5/2025: I was able to get the plastic storage grip to hold slightly better - emphasis on "slightly". I used electrical tape to "fatten up the part of the nozzles that sits in the clip. It's a kludge that won't last long. Perhaps if you can get a large enough piece of heat shrink tubing... See three new pics attached.

Thank God I found this and a good replacement spout, updated
Thank you to our wonderful government for making it nearly impossible to find a gas can that is actually usable. As you can guess, and quite probably why you are looking at this review now, I was looking for a usable gas can. You can no longer get a cheap plastic gas can that doesn't have a child proof spout which makes it pretty much unusable for lawn equipment, and I wouldn't even use one for my car. This Jerry can saved the day when used in conjunction with a NATO Long-Nose Flexible Jerry Can Spout/Nozzle, Fits Wavian or VALPRO NATO Euro Military Spec Cans (Olive Drab). The Jerry can comes with a Child proof spout, but you can take that spout off and use the replacement spout which is just a plain old flexible spout. I didn't want to spend this much, but this is the way I had to go to get around what our government did in its infinite wisdom. The replacement spout does not fit the plastic spout holder riveted to the Jerry can. But that spout comes with a replacement plastic holder. I have not done this yet, and may not because I find it convenient just leaving them next to each other in the garage, but you can drill out the rivet and then using a small bolt, you can mount the replacement plastic holder onto the can. Note: using the Jerry can and replacement spout, I have not spilled any gas, no leaks, not even a gas smell in the car when bringing a newly filled can back home from the gas station. Not even my old plastic can before the child proof laws were passed worked this well. When I filled my old can, I had to keep it in the trunk or drive with the windows open. The Jerry can is air and liquid tight. However, as the seasons change, I would suggest periodically popping it open to equalize the air pressure inside the can. After using this for a while, I still like this can. However, it really needs a handle on the side or bottom. Trying to hold this at an angle to pour gas into the lawn mower, snow blower, etc., it gets heavy while waiting for the transfer of gas to complete. I find that I often have to stop for a minute or two to reposition my hands. But even with this minor issue, this can still beats the heck out of those new Leak Proof cans when used with the replacement spout I mention above.

Quality is Excellent
Very sturdy and well made. Leak-proof and smell proof. This is such a nice feature because I have a SUV and don't have to smell the fumes when I am filling up and transporting from the gas station.

Fantastic, no exploding, no smell.
I wanted to write a quick review to address some questions I had before I bought this. Unlike most reviewers, I guess, I wasnโt driving Jeeps on the western front in the 40s, so I have never had the chance to see this type of container in use. 1. If you have a newer car with the no gas-cap type of port, the filler this comes with will fit in absolutely perfectly, and it will WORK perfectly. If youโre not planning on filling a car with gas, forget it โ you need to buy one of the other nozzles that are compatible with this. Iโm only using it for my vehicle so I donโt have any suggestions for you. 2. Letโs say you want to keep it in your car. Will fumes escape from it and make your life miserable? Absolutely not. This can is 100% absolutely air/gas/fume-tight. The closure is extremely robust and there is a thick rubber gasket. I have driven around with this in my car (an SUV so the trunk is in the cabin) for weeks, with it full and lying on its side, and never has a drop of gasoline escaped or so much as a whiff of fumes. They sell replacement gaskets, so I assume this is a part that may wear out one day, so at worst be on the lookout for that. 3. Well if itโs so dang sealed, whatโs going to happen when you leave it in the sun or in your hot car? Might it explode? Probably not. Mineโs in south Texas and I park outside at work and home. Interior of vehicle gets up to 140 degrees or so. The construction of the walls of this container seem to allow for non-destructive expansion. Donโt open it when itโs hot, because the gas will โgeyserโ, but your can should not explode. So this thing is great! You can keep it in your car and it wonโt smell or explode, or keep it in an air-conditioned space so you can actually open it, and it wonโt smell up the space. Also since itโs air-tight, gas kept in here will last longer than those off-gassing cheap ones at the gas station. Line your house walls with hundreds of these so youโll have fuel for the zombie apocalypse. Oh, one downside. Putting 5 gallons of fuel into the tank of your car seems to take about 7-10 minutes. It pours slowly, so you do have to hold an initially 40 lb container for a while. Most of the weight is taken up by the fuel port on your car, (thatโs how the included spout opens) but still, not something youโre going to like doing on a hot summer day.

READ THIS NOW TO SAVE $$$
The can is strong and durable. The spout leaks. I will save you the time of reading all the reviews like I did. Most people will all agree these cans are superior to the generic cans and well constructed even you you look at the welding. Handle has full welding bead unlike other ones with just spot welding. The cans themselves are heavy and strong you can just feel it. Also since you are putting gas you want to make sure no issues it something knocks it or can falls by accident. This is a heavy duty can for sure. The only issue is the spout which has plastic tip that tends to break and leak like most will tell you.. I used Hvac tape on mine where metal spout connects to plastic as a work around. But plastic spout also jams sometimes and breaks. I took off one start because the spout was the only issue. Wavian probably saved $1.00 by giving us a plastic spout I would of rather you charge me the extra dollar. This is all ready 2 to 3x times the generic ones so I'm not sure why wavian couldn't invest more into a better spout. Hope this was helpful is so please hit the helpful button so I know i helped someone. Please don't just be a ninja reader and sneak away.

NATO Gas can in spot on. Nozzle that comes with it works but opted for the optional nozzle!
When I bought my last set of gas cans, I bought plastic red cans 20 years ago. they still work but the nozzles pour the fuel out so slow because there is no vent, and the other plastic pieces to it have long since been lost so I can not seal off the can from the air...I actually use the small "for one gallon" 2 cycle oil bottles that tightly cover the nozzle to at least stop evaporation. Well I bought a generator to use with my travel trailer and realized that these old gas cans are not acceptable. I looked at the various "safety cans" and was surprised of the cost and the bad reviews that so many of them got...hard to fill, hard to pour gas back out, and hard to use because of EPA and other safety standards. I know back in the day I had several old school "Jerry Cans" that worked well but over the many years they got lost or rusted, so I went looking. I fell upon this can, read the reviews and figured they were pretty good cans. I bought one of the green cans with the optional nozzle...not a cheap proposition, but I was going on the premise that you get what you pay for. They arrived quickly, packed well and no damage. Two days later the nozzle arrived, again in good shape. I played with the filled cap and it seemed very tight and had the safety pin to keep it from accidentally coming open. The standard nozzle that came with it seemed like it may cause problems depending on what you are fueling since it requires the end of the nozzle to be pushed in to release the fuel....kind of one hand on the can and one hand to push the release in unless you were lucky to have a filler neck on the vehicle that you could press against. Well I took it to the gas station, filled it up with no issue, closed and secured the cap...checked for leaks (none) and even put it on its side and it did not leak from the cap...perfect. Took it home...put in the standard nozzle and went to fill the lawn tractor...well that sucked since that safety nozzle nonsense made for an awkward fill. When I got the new optional nozzle...tried it again and it worked great! I also bought extra gaskets....just in case one falls off and I missed it.... I did buy a Nato can holder bracket to put in the back of the truck when I carry it and the generator....perfect! I recommend the can...but buy the option nozzle and gaskets...you will be much happier!

Jerry cans don't leak but nozzle does. UPDATED September 16 2023
July 8 2023. I'm going on a long trip and I am unaware of finding a reliable gas station as I will drive 500 miles off-road so I decided to buy some fuel containers. After research I decided on these based on YouTube and Amazon reviews. But I cannot trust those reviews 100% so after receiving the 2 pack of Wavian 5.3 Gal/20L Red cans, I filled them with water and did tests. Without the nozzle connected the cans passed the leak test. After I attached the included nozzles, one leaked (see pictures) and the other did not. I contacted the manufacturer Wavian by email and included the zoomed in picture of the pinhole leak and they asked me for my shipping address to send me a replacement. I provided it and I got silence for 1 month as of writing this review. If the nozzle arrives I will be sure to edit this and let you know how long it took to arrive. I am leaving for my trip in a week so little over 2 weeks ago I decided to order another set of the exact same cans and will be returning the originals when new ones arrive. I think out of 4 cans I should have 2 that 100% work. So to summarize this review, Wavian support is unreliable I hope their jerry cans will be. When you order these, if you get lucky and maybe have everything perform as well as the high price makes you think it should. Then you will be fine choosing this brand just don't get your hopes up if you need warranty support in the future. Itโs a shame that multiple vendors are selling these and the first set I ordered will be a return because the Wavian company failed in supporting their product. Update September 11 2023: I am lowering my rating to two stars because Wavian company never sent me replacement nozzles. They just don't care. I will however order another set from a different company as the cans themselves are excellent and don't leak no matter how I placed them in the car during the off-road part of my trip. The car was bouncing and shaking and no leaks whatsoever. One star is for my entire experience with this company. If they care they will contact me and I will adjust my review as I still have their product from another order after I returned this one and the nozzles still leak! I did temporarily sealed them with silicone but I know gasoline brakes down silicone. Anyway, buy these jerry cans only if you do not plan on using the nozzles.

No regrets!
These Wavian jerry cans are without a doubt the highest quality fuel cans Iโve ever owned. Once closed there is not even a remote odor of fuel, period. I wish the attachable nozzle had a full clasp that locks to itself keep it secure. The supplied clip that holds the nozzle does work perfectly fine though.
