Do you have to drink your own piss to get this to work?

Don't listen to anyone here.  They don't seem very knowledgeable on the art of fire lighting.  The device just needs prepping.

You must bend 2 copper wire hangers at a 90° angle and affix a quarts crystal to the end of one and a selenite rod to the end of the other.  Use 2 straw halves at the handle ends so that the rods will move freely.  Hold them parallel to the ground (works best in a pine forest) and douse your way to the sacred flame (found in 8 secret locations around the globe).  (Of course this must be done on a full moon during a drought)  Once the copper rods cross, you navigate 500 yards (don't forget your pace beads) to where you will find a tall tree and a noble one-eyed grasshopper perched on a small branch (the tree is tall, but not the tallest).  There you set up camp and quietly collect tinder in the form of coyote scat (don't question it) from the Alfa male and female.  Once you have gathered all your materials, you listen for the grasshopper to sing 3 times (chirp, chirp, chirp - not chirp, chirp, pause, chirp, or chirp, chirp, chirp, chirp).  There you take out your ocarina and mimic the grasshoppers song.  Once you have received the satisfactory nod from the majestic creature then, and only then, do you drink your piss -  and proceed to strike the rod violently with great fervor over the scat tinder till a small blue flame appears. 
 Everything should be smooth sailing from there.

I almost forgot - when when meeting the grasshopper, keep a reverent downward gaze and do not look into his eye (this is important).

Is this any better than the other fire starters or is it just a "you pay for the name" type deal?

Adding to my previous answer, this rod is short and unreliable per the price. I suggest spending 8.00 for this "relefree 1/2" X 5" 12.7mmx12.7cm Ferrocerium Rod Flint Fire Starter" is a 5inch long half inch thick ferrocerium fire starter rod. You can put a custom hand on it if you wish for better grip. I lashed mine with paracord for a handle. For 8.00...you can't beat that.

Question 3

Post apocalyptic situation.  How long do you think this would last and produce sparks?  Would a 10 pack of bic lighters last longer?

Is this product larger than a Bic lighter?

I used a Bic lighter during my entire time on the Appalachian Trail during 2014.  Besides starting a camp fire each night It made it easier to light anything people had for smoking after a long day on the trail.  Try lighting something to smoke with the Bear Grylls fire starter and it's probably pretty difficult.
