Can you operate the X1 while plugged in without the keyboard attached?

Yes, the power plug connects to the screen to allow this. Without the keyboard, you are asked if you want to enter tablet mode, so you can then invoke an on-screen keyboard. If you write in more than one language, such as using accented characters, the on-screen keyboard makes it faster to reach them than does the hardware one.

Suggestions on an x1 tablet case 12 inch display

I have yet to find a suitable case/sleeve. I bought genuine Lenovo 13" UltraSlim Laptop sleeve, too rigid and the X1 tablet does not fit (fits tablet only but too big). Also bought Valkit Surface Pro3 sleeve, this one is more flexible but height half an inch too long. I'm interested to know what others are using but this tablet may be meant to be used without a case.
