Q: Is 15" the width? Seems too wide since actual hanging folders are 12-3/4" wide. My 3rd deep drawer is 12-1/4" wide. Any more details please.

It is 15" long by 11 3/8" wide by 2 1/4" deep. I've got at least 6 of these and they are the best organizers ever. They hold a lot more items and I have them in my kitchen drawers, my nightstand in my bedroom (fit perfectly with about 1/12" to spare and one in the credenza drawer under my sewing machine. These are heavy duty, well made, nothing fancy organizers and they will last forever. I've had some of mine for over a decade. Great for organizing different size batteries too. If you're looking to use these in a filing cabinet with a drawer the width should fit easily enough. Your drawer is 12 1/4" wide these organizers are 11 3/8" wide. That leaves your drawer space 7/8" larger in width than the organizer. not a whole lot of room but workable. Hope this helps.

that is about the length of the tray and it is about 6 centimeters high hope this answers your questions.

Q: Does this unit fit on hanging file rails?

For a normal US letter size file rail this unit is too wide one direction and too narrow the other direction to hang on the rails. I do not know if it would fit on US legal size file rails.
