NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER • Two sisters must learn from each other’s strengths and trust in the redeeming power of love in a touching novel from #1 New York Times bestselling author Debbie Macomber. The Lakey sisters are perfect opposites. After their mother died and their father was lost in grief, Willa had no choice but to raise her sister, Harper, and their brother, Lucas. Then, as an adult, she put her own life on hold to nurse Harper through a terrifying illness. Now that Harper is better and the sisters are living as roommates, Willa has realized her dream of running her own bakery and coffee shop, bringing her special brand of caretaking to the whole Oceanside community. Harper, on the other hand, is always on the go. Overcoming a terrible illness has given her a new lease on life, and she does not intend to waste it. When Harper announces her plan to summit Mount Rainier, Willa fears she may be pushing herself too far. Harper, for her part, urges Willa to stop worrying and do something outside of her comfort zone—like taking a chance on love with a handsome new customer. Sean O’Malley is as charming as he is intriguing—a freelance photographer whose assignments take him to the ends of the earth. Soon Willa’s falling for him in a way that is both exciting and terrifying. But life has taught Willa to hedge her bets, and she wonders whether the potential heartache is worth the risk. Life has more challenges in store for them all. But both sisters will discover that even in the darkest moments, family is everything. Review: Entertaining - Excellent book!! Review: well written - This book was a departure from the silly - fluff romance stories that this author tends to write. This book deals with a very real health issue that millions of people have had to face in their lives. The characters are well written and the reader feels as though we are right there in the story with the characters. The story eventually becomes a tear-jerker but we are left with a semi- happy ending. I enjoy stories that include animals and this story has both a dog and a cat who lighten the mood a bit when the story threatens to become too heavy. All in all it was a very good read.

A. Sweet Read
As most Macomber novels, A Walk Along the Beach has a sweet ending with a few tears on the way. The settling is a place that you would like to visit in person.

Crushingly Honest, Brutally Heartbreaking
I have read almost every book this author has written, but "A Walk Along The Beach" will forever sit on my shelf half-read. In her opening letter, Macomber relates that she lost her best friend to cancer, and this book is a tribute to her. How reliving the agonies experienced by those dying of cancer, or loved ones dying emotionally right along with them is a tribute, I will never understand. I will say the experiences in the story are extremely real and true-to life, or death if you will. Once I realized where we were headed in the story line, I speed-read through the rest sobbing, as I was catapulted back in time to the real-life bedsides of my husband, my mother, my daughter and yes, my own sister and several close friends. Ms. Macomber, so many of us have lived with the nightmare of cancer again and again--how did you think your self-indulgent writing this in sordid detail would be helpful, or was writing it just a catharsis you needed? Do you truly not realize the life-long trauma cancer has caused hundreds of thousands of us, some of us over and over?? Well for myself and I suspect many others, your book had exactly the opposite effect, and your tale of misery and anguish will sit on a back shelf forever unfinished, which is something that almost never happens in my reading life. I read to relax, to enjoy, not to be slain over and over by my memories. With all the complex miseries going on in the world today, this book should never have been put out there to feed the pain! "A Walk Along The Beach" is no walk in the park for those of us who have had to live with the terror and crushing heartache of cancer. I will not be reading your books again anytime soon.

Absolutely fantastic book, a MUST read!
I totally devoured this book in 1 sitting, I just couldn't put it down! A departure from the way Debbie Macomber usually writes;( each chapter seen from the characters point of view, but it works, boy does it work! It's subject is a sad one, and I bawled my eyes out, hard to do at 4am with a husband sleeping next to me, good job my kindle is a paperlight! Oh it's good, so good I could have given it 100 stars and it still wouldn't have been enough. The storyline is classic boy meets girl, boy is shy, etc, but this author has a way of making it so much more, much more! Set in Oceanside, same as Cottage By The Sea (I re-read this before I started Walk on the Beach) Willa and Harper are sisters, Harper had beaten Leukaemia a few years previously but recently had taken to doing daredevil events, did she know something? Willa, owner of Bean There is worried about her, but Harper is determined, as she's determined to see her Sister settled and matchmakes with a new member of the community, Sean. Sean has his own story, he's a professional¥⁹ photographer, travelling the world, and is tongue tied around girls, but is smitten by Willa, so much so he buys a coffee every day just to see her and he doesn't even like coffee!, that's a sign of true love! Of course, there are animals involved too. Old friends from Cottage by the Sea make an appearance but you don't need to have read this book to enjoy Walk on the Beach. I will now re-read this book, and make sure I have lots of chocolate on hand, and a box of tissues! I think this is one of Debbie Macomber's best ever books, and that's hard to say as all her books are!!! If you don't read another book ever, read this one, it's so worth it!!!

An incredible story of sisterly love
Wow. This was not the typical Debbie Macomber I was expecting. I cried. I laughed. It was fantastic. Just the right amount of pull on the ol heartstrings. It's 4am and I couldn't put it down. Don't start this book before bed.
