Q: How can I replace the defective sensor?

Check battery. Is it in warranty? If all else fails, time for a new one.

There are two types of sensors. 1. Contact, for doors and windows 2. PIR for movement

Q: Would this work ok on the INSIDE of a shed door?

In principle there’s no reason why it won’t work in a shed, however you need to consider; 1. It’s not intended for ‘out-door’ use, e.g. Temperature extremes and dampness. 2. The two pieces of the sensor must remain with about half an inch of each other, else the sensor will trigger. This means your door / frame will need to be solid and not move about when closed. 3. The distance from the shed/sensor to your alarm unit. There doesn’t seem to be much info about transmission range. So it depends how close your shed is.
