Seventh Generation is cruelty free, but they are owned by Unilever which is NOT cruelty free because they allow animal testing on their other brands.

Does the packet wrapper dissolve in the washer or do you have to unwrap it?

You are not supposed to unwrap it. I wonder, though, Is it like All of the other pod type products that don't comlletely dissolve and end up as micro-plastics poisoning our fish and waters and ultimately EVERYTHING?

Do they work well with hard water?

We have very hard well water and these tabs cleaned the dishes very well, but they smelled really bad. The bottom of my machine started getting a ton of sticky build-up and it began smelling horrible within a couple of weeks. I consistently use dishwasher cleaner every month...but it didn't help. I was pre-washing my dishes and the machine as well as my dishes were still smelling bad. I switched to a different brand and never had any more problems. I would say give them a try for a few weeks and see what happens...they may work well for you.

What is the difference between powerful clean and ultra power plus?

I’ve tried both kinds and didn’t notice and differences at all. I also quit purchasing this because the price has constantly went up each month for the last year. It started out around $14 now it’s up to $18 and just not worth that. I can purchase name brand dishwasher detergent for less.
