New version of tag doesn't fall apart and battery keeps a long time
Greatly improved and working now excellent. I'm using the Girafus tracker to find when necessary my two blind cats who insist to go outdoors like my other seeing cats. GPS trackers are working only when they have a connection to the satellites, and in urban areas this is a problem. Therefore I bought a year ago the Girafus tracker and it already then at least once helped to find one of my cats (which climbed into the motor of a car) and likely saved her life. The problem was that the tag tended to lose battery contact, so every day at least once I needed to check whether it' still ok (and the battery check button is most useful here), and in addition also Duracell batteries tended to be finished within two weeks at the most. The tag kept functioning until recently (with the help of isolierband) but the silicon sleeve wore off, so I ordered a new tag, and to my positive surprise they added a small screw, which makes a huge difference, as the tag stays functioning for a long time (longer than a month and a half) and no worries anymore that it looses battery contact. And I can write that it again helped finding my cat, which this time really moved quite a distance, and not sure whether I would have found her without Girafus (as it turned out the chinese made GPS tracker stopped sending location details, I replaced it in the meantime). So big thanks to Girafus and I highly recommend this product for urban environments.

Girafus finally did it
I have a white cat that loves to play in the snow and has snuck out during a storm a few times which makes me very worried. I have been using this Girafus cat trackers for about 5 years now in the winter time for my peace of mind. I have always liked the product. It accurately locates my cat within about 1600 ft. Does not require a GPS subscription and is quite easy to use once the tracker is paired and battery installed. One problem I have always had is battery contact. The original design held the tracker together with a single screw and flimsy plastic guides. After 1/2 winter of battery replacements, the guides become worn, the screw has been installed and removed too many times, and the battery connection becomes sloppy. By the second season, the tracker became unreliable. I have otherwise loved the design, so I have been buying a replacement tracker every winter. I figured it was worth the $35 every year. Now I see they have made some improvements to the design. The guide is a bit more sturdy and now it is held together with two opposing screws. Yes, a small point, but I bet it makes a big difference. They also advertise the battery is good for a month. I have not had it that long yet, so we will see. So far I am very impressed. I will come back at the end of this 2023 winter season with an update.

Questionable reliability
(1) Very slow shipping, far beyond promised date. (2) Disappointed in battery life. Makes it very unreliable.

It Can Be Done
The video on this page would benefit from the following clarifications. There are two basic steps--getting the handheld unit into registration mode (it may take several tries) and then registering the tag(s). Tags do not have an on/off switch. What they mean is for you to take the two little screws out and move the main part of the tag (the part that doesn't have the battery) up a little bit, as shown in the video. Now the tag is off. Test the registration before you put in the screws. Do not tighten the screws all the way because you may damage the case.

Works with tracker to track a pet within range.
This is an extra tag for the pet tracking system. Tags do not come with a collar for the pet. Tracking was being used for a cat and the original tag was lost as the cat was able to get the collar with tracker tag off. The tag couldn't be found as it wasn't charged enough to have a signal.

Replacement for a lost tracker
One of our cats lost her tracker when her breakaway collar came off. I know where the tracker is--within about a 30' radius--somewhere in our flowerbed or in the bushes on the other side of the fence. I absolutely cannot find it! So, thankfully, Giraffus sells the trackers individually. I especially like that the whole unit comes with a recharger for the coin batteries in the tracker. I'm also very impressed by the range of the tracker. It's pretty far out.

Extra Tag Wouldn't Connect
I couldn't get the second tag to connect. The instructions say that the first tag has to be turned off, etc. I did all of that, and followed the instructions as well as I could (and I'm a mechanical engineer with a few decades of experience), but it just wouldn't work, even though the original tag worked just fine.

Cat Anxiety!
It is quite odd that I purchased two extra backup tags and the only one that works consistently is the black? I purchased that one because I supposed the original maybe got wet? No, that is not the issue. I now have three tags, white, black and purple but the only one that doesn't die after a day is the black one. My first "spare". Is it the circuitry, the batteries? IDK. I stopped using the rechargable ones because they fail without warning. This gives me a feeling of anxiety when I get zero signal. But even with a dry, brand new battery powered unit it just is not reliable. Except for the black tag. That one works as advertized with a good battery for over two weeks. Someone tell me what to do?
