The Moen site says the part number for my faucet is 40002. Is this the same part?

It looks the same as the 4000 but is for an older discontinued faucet. It maybe a good part. Go for it. The other choice is to replace the faucet. I may buy one to see if it fits mine.

Will this fit to my Moen single handle filtering faucet model F87420?

There are 2 cartridges that fit into the Moen single handle. If your cartridge has a large square end this 4000 unit will work.

Can the red 3 o-ring washer be removed? Id like to use the oring from this and put on my old cartridge b/c its leaking (and I cant find replacement)

Yes, you can reuse the O-ring for the same model cartridge. The O-ring may be different, if the cartridge model is not the same. If the leak is from the O-ring greasing it will help. I find that the leaks are often in the internal ceramic pieces. They must wear out from usage and mineral deposits.

I have an older moen faucet called the Whitmore. The current cartridge threads in and has the thick square top. I dont see any threads on this part?

The Moen Whitmore faucet requires cartridge number 1255, which is held in place by a black nylon threaded nut that is included with the cartridge. Moen faucets that use the 4000 cartridge are held in place by a brass nut, which can be reused and is not included with the cartridge. Exact fit for Moen and others using this pattern

Last one was good for 3ish years, I suspect this one may do about the same, and for considerably less than what I’d pay for an official Moen-branded cartridge, I’m happy with it. Doesn’t squeak, doesn’t drip, doesn’t chatter, and moves smoothly, up to my delivery pressure of 60psi. Double check your part numbers and make sure this is the right one for your faucet, as there are a few sizes which are all similar in appearance.
