- POSCA® Colored Pencils, Soft Core, 36 Count

Nice pencils. Highly pigmented. Soft and blendable, but keep a point. Nice selection of colors. The trays are hard plastic which is really nice. Just enough colors for a nice bright page in an adult coloring book, but not overwhelming like some sets with too many pencils. No names though, slight drawback. I am happy with my purchase.

Here's side by side pic on black paper against Prismacolor Premiere (since nobody's posted that yet). including a bunch of other mediums... (caran d'ache aquarelle, cretacolor watercolor pencils, derwent inktense, copic acryla, posca paint pens, Sharpie acrylic markers and 2 cheapo brands from amazon (GuangNa & RosyMeng). Generally, there's more whiteners in Posca than Prismacolor, which gives a really nice opaqueness to them on black paper (which is what I was seeking). Perfect for my use. I noticed that Posca stands out better re: similar colors between the two pencil brands. On light paper, theyre both fantastic. Posca lead width: 4mm Prismacolor: 3.8mm (slight diff but you can tell). but the prisma pencil length is slightly longer. Posca pencil bottoms have a rounded capped end. Prisma is open (cut). Texture: Posca is more oil based than wax based (prisma), but I can't tell a big difference. Both feel ultra creamy and smooth on the paper and a pleasure to use. They can blend into each other well. I heard that oil based pencils break easier, but with the added width, it doesnt feel fragile (but granted, I dont ultra sharpen it cuz Im emphasizing thick heavy laydown).

Did I need them? No. Are They Wonderful to Use? Yes. I have never used oil based pencils before and I have an extensive collection of various brands of wax based colored pencils. Everything from Pebeo and Crayola up to Prismacolor and Derwent. (I do not have Faber Castell or Caran D'ache). I had been eyeing this set out of curiosity for a while now since I do enjoy using the Posca paint pens, but I just couldn't justify the purchase. I jumped on this discounted deal and I have no regrets. The box they come in is adorable and though it will take up space on my desk when using it, is a lot more compact than other colored pencil tins I have used. I adore the design of the case and that it comes with a band to keep it closed, it reminds me of a bento! It's so much better than the tins with a flimsy plastic tray that spills the pencils all over, or or cardboard packaging you throw away and then have to buy another case to organize them in. The pencils themselves are on the thicker side and feel nice in the hand, sturdy, heavy, and made out of a nice wood. I was blown away by how smooth they are, I have not really found a pencil that comes close to the buttery texture of a Prismacolor, but I really feel these pencils have it. I have not tried sharpening them yet, so it remains to be seen what the potential for breakage is but the only crumbs that flaked off during swatching were the normal dusty pigment flakes expected of higher end pencils. I did not have any of the cores crumble or shatter even when I pressed really hard to burnish them. These are fabulous to blend and I very much look forward to using them. If I had one complaint, it would be that there are no color names on the pencil, and it is only on the plastic outer packaging that is made to be discarded. However, it is no a huge deal as the colors seem fairly easy to identify just by looking at the core., and as always, it is best to swatch it on scrap paper before putting marks on your actual artwork to be sure it's the color you want.

Got the 48 count and I LOVE them! They are comparable to Prismacolor but slightly chunkier and good core! Even though they’re soft, I didn’t have a problem sharpening them. I did have one color that was damaged at the tip and it took maybe a fourth off the pencil from sharpening till it didn’t break. Other than that they work great over alcohol markers, and was friendly blending with other brands, especially Prismacolor. I wish they had more colors! Totally worth the price!

I had procrastinated on buying these Posca colored pencils. Not sure why, maybe because I didn't see them coming up in conversation in the FB adult coloring groups I follow. Maybe I was judging them because their packaging is simple, without the artwork other brands have on their packaging. What ever the reason, I do regret not getting these Posca colored pencils sooner!!! I looked them up, and Posca's are a hybrid pencil, having both oil and wax in their base, with the oil content being higher. But you'd never know it by the way they smoothly put their color on paper. No scratching sensation. The color has ability to go on thick. I'd say a light touch is needed with these pencils. It's easy to place colors on top of each other, and they blend well. I my opinion, these are extremely similar to Prismas Premiers. The colors are vibrant, and the pencils seem to sharpen well without broken leads. Only complaint I have and would change if I could is that they don't have the color names printed on the pencil. Rather, there is a small ref number on the end of the pencil, and a chart provided, so you have to cross reference the number to the name which is a bit of a pain. I will be saving up my money and keep an eye out for discounted prices on the larger set!

Nice set of pencils. Buttery soft and hold their point decently. Durable cores with good blendability as well as layering in light layers. Love the expanded color set and hope they will continue to expand. Decent set of pencils for the price point. I was surprised how soft these were to use in my adult coloring books.

I’ve tried MANY different brands of colored pencils from budget to luxury over the years. For the most part I typically use the Prismacolor Premier colored pencils but love to try new brands. The Posca are my new favorites! Bold, vibrant colors that require very little effort when applying. Even with the soft core they hold a point far longer than my Prismacolor pencils. Decent color selection with the 48ct box. Worth every penny IMO.

Posca Colored Pencils are now my go-to pencil for drawing on black paper. While Prismacolor Premier, Faber-Castell Polychromos, and Faber-Castell Black edition colored pencils all do amazing on black paper, Posca has proven to me to be THE BEST. While the color choices are minimal at only 36 colors, I am surprised at what I’ve been able to accomplish with them. And I love everything I’ve made with them. The blend ability is pretty decent, though not as great as Prismacolor, but I’ve learned to work with them. They stay sharper for longer than Prismas and I have not had any lead breakage at all!! These are soft while still holding their integrity. I will always use Prismacolor pencils, but these Poscas are WONDERFUL. And whenever said they were “just like any other pencil” or equated them to Crayolas, are not using them right!! I wouldn’t use these for coloring books / pages, or even on white paper. They are going to shine on black and toned paper. I think these are a need for any artist’s toolkit! Unfortunately there is zero information anywhere about their light-fastness.

Crayons agréables, crémeux. Les couleurs sont lumineuses, saturées. Les dégradés se travaillent facilement. De plus, ils se marient à merveille avec d'autres grammes de crayons comme les Chromaflow. Enfin, il est possible d'acheter les crayons à l'unité, une condition synequanone pour moi.

I love pencils, have quite a collection and definitely didn’t need any more but I couldn’t resist these and I am glad I didn’t! They layer and blend beautifully. I use them on hot pressed watercolour paper (as I like some tooth) mainly for colouring stamped images and they are excellent, full of pigment, hard wearing and smooth. They come in a set of 3 stackable trays, a lid and a band to keep them together. My only gripe is there are only 36 colours and they are so good I want more!

Están bien, pero por el precio tal alto y el prestigio de la marca, yo esperaba algo mucho mejor, NO SUPERAN a los colores Prismacolor Premier ni en funcionalidad ni en precio. El nombre cada color solo viene en el empaque de plástico y no en el mismo lápiz de color.

Perfeição. Melhor que Prismacolor.
