First Thousand Words in Italian

I already have the same books in French and German, and they all follow the same theme. Each double page has a colourful picture ofThe inside of a houseA schoolroomA garageA street scene. Etc.And the appropriate vocabulary to match.There are also pages onFeelingsColoursNumbersActivitiesAnd very clearly presented. The book will not make you fluent or enable you to write full sentences, but it is a very pleasant and enjoyable introduction to the language. It might be aimed at children, but as a sixty something I also managed to learn a lot.

I was given the First 1000 Words in French hardback as a child and loved learning the words and finding the duck in each fun scene. I am learning Italian now as an adult and was pleased to find there was an Italian version of the book I loved so much. Even as an adult, I love looking at the lovely, fun illustrations, which help in learning vocabulary (and I could still remember where the duck was on each page 30+ years later!). Towards the end of the book there are useful sections explaining the basics of pronunciation and simple grammar. I’m sure the book is just as charming and useful in whichever language it covers. I’d give it 10 stars if I could!

I am an adult trying to learn some basic Italian, and this is a fun way to start (and hopefully my child will enjoy the book as well, thanks to the lovely illustrations). There's a word list with translations at the back of the book. And better still, there's an online resource linked to the book with a real Italian pronunciation of all these 1000 words!

Brought for my 3.5yr old who is learning Italian 2 afternoons a week. Great success with his Italian tutor when they play, lots of busy illustrations split in to themes. As a not Italian speaking parent it would have been helpful if they included the pronunciation sounds underneath the words. But thankfully my son corrects me as he learns them. Would most definitely recommend for beginners vocabulary.

Bought this for myself as have just started learning Italian in my retirement. Aimed at children, but I am finding it easy to memorise the words with the entertaining images. (Haven't bothered with the duck though! 😂)
