Recently purchased these for 2 floating shelves. Used 2" rough cut Alder. Prepped the shelves and deviated from the instructions slightly. The instructions say to use a 7/16" drill bit.. the rods are not straight and even with a drill press to confirm the holes were drilled correctly, the bracket would not fit. Had to increase to 1/2" drill bit. This was the next problem as depending on the drill bit, you might not be able to drill deep enough for the bracket to sit flush. I had to use an adapter to drill the correct depth.The package comes with 4 drywall anchors that are an absolute joke. Do not use them, they won't hold. The holes on the bracket are placed outside the stud thickness and only hit the very edge (not supportive either), so you will need to modify the bracket. I drilled another hole in each bracket evenly spaced beneath the existing hole so that I could screw into the center of the stud, but this will changes the spacing of where your holes are on the shelf so plan ahead and mark everything before you begin.Lastly, the 5" support rod is not in the center of the mounting bracket. The bracket is uneven, so if you think you can just drill the hole in the center of a 2" shelf like I did, the top of the bracket will show. It was an easy fix as I was able to rotate my shelf 180 degrees.This product works. It holds up the shelves and looks nice, but it took a lot more modifying and adjusting than what is depicted in the description or instructions.

There are a lot of similar products on the market and the reviews aren't great. These floating shelf brackets had very good reviews so I gave them a try. They are top quality brackets and are a fantastic solution to create floating shelves.I used 2"×8" rough cedar and the brackets were simple to install. I have 3 recommendations to make your installation easier.1. Buy a drill block guide to clamp to the end of your shelves to make sure the holes you drill are level. If you have a big enough drill press you wont need this.2. Make a template to ensure the holes are aligned for all the shelf installations. If you are even slightly off, your shelves wont be level and won't slide on the brackets. I used a 1" x 2" piece if pine which I cut to 18" which is the size of my shelves. After you drill the holes, hold the template to the wall with a level to drill the holes in the exact location every time.3. I used a 1/2" drill instead of the 15/32"that was recommended in the instructions. It is only slightly larger which has a little more flexibility and still a tight fit.I wanted to try one set of brackets to make sure.they worked, and was so satisfied I ordered the 2nd set for 2 more shelves.Look no further and just buy these brackets. You won't be disappointed

Nice finish, plenty strong, welds looked good.Be careful if you’re planning to chisel/route out the wood on the back of the shelf so you can get it truly flush to the wall. On the first shelf, I mistakenly assumed that the rod was centered on the height of the bracket. In fact it’s a bit off center. On a shelf that’s just a tiny bit thicker than the height of the bracket, you’ll want to measure carefully to make sure you’ve hidden the bracket.

We could not use the supplied screws and wall anchors, because of the construction of our bedroom wall; we ended up going with smaller screws and anchors. That said, it does not diminish the sturdiness and uniqueness of these brackets. We did not use them as hidden brackets for a floating shelf, rather we mounted the hardware to the wall and set cedar fence boards (cut to size) on the brackets. It's so pretty, and we don't have the typical under-shelf mounted brackets that take up 12 inches under the shelves, which would have detracted from the creativity of the shelf.We got the idea for this "design" from a restaurant, and duplicated it as best we could with the Solid Steel Floating Shelf Bracket (4 pcs), which is perfect for what we needed, even though we aren't floating the shelves. We could not find any such set in the local hardware stores.This is a solid product and I highly recommend it!!

The brackets are nice and strong and appear to be able to support a decent amount of weight.Some problems that I encountered, were that the back bracket plate is 2 inches wide and the screw holes are just inside this measurement. I found it difficult to put both screws into a stud without skimming off the side of the stud. I ended up putting one screw dead center in a stud and used the provided drywall anchor to support the other screw.The other issue was the 3 out of the 4 brackets were not straight. I pre-drilled the holes exactly were the rods met the wood, but I found that one shelf went on nice and smoothly but the other did not line up with the holes. I measured the back of the bracket rod and it measured exactly 16 inches apart but at the tip of the rods it was almost 16.25 inches. I ended up having to drill a half inch hole instead of the recommended 7/16 hole to account for this deviation. After all the issues had been fixed the shelves do fit nicely and are supported well.

The product is exactly as described! The brackets are sturdy and reliable--they will definitely support a floating shelf and whatever you want to put on it. Hanging these is an adventure if you are just a casual DIY-er looking to spruce up your space. It requires a 15/32 bit, which we did not already have in our set. It is also a little tricky to drill the hole perfectly straight without a drill press. You are getting a great product here, just make sure you watch a few Youtube tutorials before you start.A great seller too. Our first box didn't come with any hardware but the company had them shipped out later that same day. Super easy to work with!
