Best Purchase in Years!
Been researching portable AC units for 2 years. Yes, one of them, frugal maybe slightly cheap and must have at least 4-5 uses for something before I purchase. Biggest issue is that I wanted it for a room that has casement windows so I was hesitant to take on something that I knew would require a MacGyver. There, I dated myself with that reference. After the brutal summer in PA last year, I purchased it in March while still on the cheap side. Watched a lot of the customer videos on Amazon that had the same casement windows and of course, Youtube. Purchased and so glad I did. If you have an old house like mine, do not be deterred. The relief I am receiving is worth the little bit of carpentry and MacGyvering I had to do. Even this Spring in PA has been brutal and I needed this relief. Easy to install, the directions were clear. The tubing in the back was easily installed. The price was right. I cannot comment yet on the energy efficiency as I am waiting for my 1st electric bill from it (yikes) but whatever it is, worth it. The noise is no louder than a wall unit I have and I live on a busy street so it helps at night with an almost white noise. The cooling is amazing. I get home from work, turn it on, within an hour the heat becomes bearable. Only have it on the low setting for energy saver and it works perfectly in an approximately 450 sq. ft. area. Recommend highly.

Great buy. Quiet and powerful.
This AC unit works exactly as intended. I use this as a dedicated bedroom AC unit in a 2 bedroom apartment. Even on 90F+ degree days, this gets my bedroom (~ 225 SQFT) back to 70F in well under an hour. I would not recommend using this to cool an entire apartment alone; but using in tandem with another AC unit works fantastic. It definitely makes some noise, but even on the highest fan speed you can have a conversation in the room. Quieter than my similarly-sized window units. It is easy to install -- takes about 10 minutes. I recommend using packing tape to seal around any gaps that remain after install. After running for about 60 days now, I have not had to empty the condensing tank. The self-evaporation does seem to work.

Works
Works amazingly. It’s just way too loud. When I first moved in to my apartment I was told I’m not allowed a window air conditioner so I got this because it gets hot as hell in here. It cools down my kitchen and living room no problem. I think it could cool down my whole apartment too, I just tend to keep the bedroom and bathroom doors closed. So if you’re trying to cool down a 1 bedroom apartment this unit will work well. But dammmm it’s loud. After 1 year it started making a loud humming from the motor. I’m not sure if this is something you can avoid in window units or if this one is particularly loud. -I’ve haven’t used the dehumidifier setting. -It did grow mold. In the summer when it’s 80 or hotter and I’m trying to get my home to 65-70 condensation forms in it… and my home is relatively dry. -summary: easy to use, works well, loud, need to find a way to clean it.

Worked for a few hours then started making loud rattling noise
The PNW is experiencing some very bad heatwaves and my apartment is not equipped to deal with the heat. We barely survived the 116 degree weather without AC, with our apartment getting up to 100 degrees inside at night. I saw another 3-day heatwave was coming so I decided to be prepared and order a portable AC. This one came right on time and I was so happy. We waited the 24 hours to turn it on and when we did, it worked great for a few hours. Our apartment is about 460 sqft, but the room in which we have it in is about 250. It cooled the room very nicely, but it turned off after about an hour or two with an “E3” notification on the screen. I looked it up and it meant I needed to empty the water reservoir, where I realized how poorly designed this ac unit is. The hole in which you’re suppose to drain the water from is only a centimeter or so away from the ground. I couldn’t fit anything under the hole to drain it into - not even a plate! I decided to try to use the pipe it provides to drain it into a nearby cookie sheet, but the pipe refused to stay on the draining hole. I got water everywhere and the rug I had it on was soaked. After emptying the water, it turned back on but then started to make a very loud rattling noise after the compressor turned on. I tried troubleshooting the ac unit for hours while my apartment was in the 90s. Sweaty and annoyed, I called Amazon support and they suggested putting a BLANKET over it to cover the noise! Now I have no AC, it’s going to be in the hundreds over the next couple of days, and i have to figure out how to box it back up after throwing away the box because I thought it was working fine. I did buy this used and it said it was in “very good” condition - apart from some cosmetic issues. This was obviously not tested enough. If I could do it again, I would just put in the extra bucks to buy it new. So disappointed.

Great product
Very convenient and easy to set up! It cools very nicely and is not too loud. Our original system must have had a coolant leak because after about a year, it stopped cooling. It was out of warranty, but the company gave us a new one at no cost to us.

16x18x9 bedroom in Texas this cools us off very well.
My bedroom is the hottest room in the house it’s always about 2-4 degrees warmer in there. So adding this was perfect because I didn’t want to spend $1800 on a mini split. The window plastic attachment is not super high quality. Definitely opportunity for improvement. The seal stuff sticks too well, annoyingly well. I’d recommend using a plywood sheet and cutting your own eventually is what I plan on doing. Noise, this thing is loud, I have to crank my tv to 20, normally I listen to it on 7-8 at night but the noise is relaxing and ambient if you like fan noises. It actually puts me to sleep quicker and not waking up hot and sticky without having to freeze the entire house out is clutch af. Recommend would buy again. I do have to say I purchased a used/good one and my caster wheels were busted upon arrival, this thing is light and I don’t plan on moving it around so I just removed the wheels. I like how the top opens and the remote seems to be responsive even when lying down without a direct line of sight.

1 month review, basics what you need to know
I purchased the 6,000 BTU SACC/CEC-10,000 BTU ASHRAE Black and Decker air conditioner about 1 month ago and here is the run down on the basics of the unit. Cooling- I own a 1200 sq. ft. two story townhome. I use this unit and a 6,000 BTU window unit upstairs. I am able to keep my home at about 72 degrees when it is over 90 outside. Noise- I read that the unit is supposed to be about as loud as a refrigerator. It is definitely louder than my refrigerator but still tolerable. Smell- There was minor of gassing of the plastic for the first two days, but it completely subsided. I am very sensitive to smells and it did not bother me. Power bill- I got my August power bill and compared it to last years August power bill, and the cost to run this thing for about 10 hours per day was about $10 for the month. The cost is definitely worth not roasting in my home with some of the miserable temperatures we had this summer. I would recommend this unit. but advise measuring you sq. to see what size unit you need.

Certainly NOT portable
The unit comes with one hose and one window fitment with sealing tape. Once you have this connected, there’s no way you’re going to move it around with any regularity. I noticed the caution in fine print NOT to plug it in for 24 hours. Well, that’s unusual and it should have been more prominently displayed. I called the Black & Decker installation help line, was put on hold then disconnected after 3 minutes. There does seem to be an additional exhaust hose available , but it doesn’t seem to have the end heads on it, so what good is that. There should be a kit that fits the unit to provide an additional hose and window so that it possibly can be put in another room without a big hassle. There’s a tremendous amount of water being output as the AC does its thing. I empty a receptacle of 20 oz several times a day. god forbid it’s running along and I don’t get there in time - there would be water on the floor. Another large impediment to its space requirement. The instructions say empty it at the end of the season. ???? wha. no way. I was told by B&D the water holding capacity is 64 oz, then the unit shuts down and it must be drained. I have the hose connected for continuous draining. I easily accumulate that that much several times a day and have to manually dump it. I’ve called the customer service number numerous times, put on hold, then disconnected. Today they said wait time is 16 min. I’ve been holding for 31 minutes and finally got an operator It does put out cool air, so it basically works.
