An Excellent Product AND Made In The USA!
I've been using my Butter Bay now for about two weeks and am absolutely thrilled with how it works. When I first discovered the item on Amazon.com I searched the internet for the company's page and was led to thebutterbay.com. The page is packed with lots of information about the company and their product and the customer service is quite good. I sent an email with some questions not addressed by the web site and received a very friendly reply in good time. After I received my Butter Bay from Amazon I went back to the company web site to watch the video demonstrating its use (about 2 1/2 minutes) and was thoroughly impressed that the product really is as simple and mess free to "load" as the video demonstrates! I would surely recommend the Butter Bay to anyone who inquired. A few of the facts that have made me so happy with this product follow: 1. The product is produced entirely in the United States. 2. It is constructed well and feels substantial in your hand. It doesn't feel fragile. 3. It will accommodate a variety of sizes of butter sticks very simply. 4. It can be filled as simply and cleanly as indicated on the company's video. 5. It is available in a nice selection of colors and at a price that surpasses other similar products. It is also very handsome and not decorated with any motifs. 6. It really does work. 7. It is very easy to clean and maintain. 8. The products footprint is not substantially larger than a stick of butter so it's a great product for those of us with small or tiny kitchens. A few things that I discovered after my email to the company and their reply to me: 1. If you're adding salt to the water use about 1/8 t. 2. Cool tap water is recommended.

White edging rough and unfinished with a sharp edge, not chipped, but like it was mis-made
I have updated and upgraded my review based on contact with the vendor after I left my first review. I did return the first butter bay, but was sent a second one. The second one is well made without the nick on top. I learned about the unglazed top being how they are all made, and that this butter keeper actually holds a stick of butter (1/2 cup) which is the norm. Even though the butter holding part looked small, sure enough, it easily held the stick of butter. Jim and I have a little quibble on our favorite. I actually find this butter bay the one I like best, I like the elongated handle and I find it easier to get the butter out of the oval shape. Jim likes the other one we tried better, a more straight up and down design. Our solution, keep and use both:) we both agree this is the more attractive of the two. I appreciate the manufacturers caring enough to reach out, however, I have to deduct a star because the first one I had did have issues. However, this one is lovely and works great, and is well made. *original review follows: ................ Maybe I got a lemon, since most of the reviews are positive. In my case, while I love the idea and the color, the butter holding portion seems tiny. (although I'm told it's a stick of butter which is the norm for these butter holders.) Also, the white unfinished top is odd looking because the paint is uneven on the side, and the white part is rough. It also has a sharp edge like it was miscast, and gave me a good snag on my finger. I asked Jim if he could file it down, but we decided to just return it instead. The color is a gorgeous rich pomegranate. It's truly a shame it didn't work because it's mostly beautiful.

Desert Dwelling Toast Lovers Rejoice!
I live in the HOT Arizona Desert. Even with Air Conditioning you simply cannot leave butter out on the counter....You can now ;) 1.Solid Construction 2.Very Easy to 'fill' - watch the product video - so easy! 3.Saves Money - ( no more wasted 'melt' when the soften setting on your microwave gets a bit picky or you forgot and left it "softening" on the counter too long and have to toss the rancid mess) 4.Easy to Clean 5. Does Exactly what it says it will do 6. Water stays cool So very glad I finally bit and bought this...my husband loves it too. Usage: Sits on the island where it gets indirect sun exposure from two windows (6 foot and 8 feet away from the windows). Refresh water once every 3 days even though you can go much longer than that. I fill per the instructions, making sure the butter is properly 'seated' around all sides - which for this model is just easy peasy and no utensils required! I do 'scrape' the sides occasionally from the top down during use ..have never had a problem with butter falling out - even when you can see the sides peaking thru - because it's been properly pressed into the dish at the filling stage so it stays at just the right temp to still stick to the sides and thus not fall out. Thus far have never 'refrigerated' the unit when not in use - have not needed to do anything but fill it, refresh the water every so often, and enjoy. The butter is never too soft (re never melting in the dish). The nice large base on the unit means no tipping when turned up for use (like I've read about some butter bells) and it makes for a nice large 'handle' when taking it off the base unit. Very nice for those with carpel, arthritis or other hand issues. This unit is very simply - Great! Butter Bay Cube-Shaped Butter Keeper, Made in USA, Pomegranate

Charming and Functional
Having broken my old bell style butter jar I started looking for a replacement which is what brought the Butter Bay to my attention. My old bell was in fact a bit tricky to pack and thought this was a clever idea. It has been in service for a few weeks now flawlessly. Every claim which was made by the company was true to word. Easy to load, well made, keeps butter fresh and spreadable! I also enjoy the cheerful yellow color. If I had one complaint it would be that the lid does not fit precisely. Often I have to push it from one side to the other to get it centered on the base. Perhaps a lip molded on the inside of the lid would help keep it centered? Either way it is a trifling thing to worry about because I am well pleased overall!

Lid Does Not Fit Flush on the Bottom - Butter Turned Rancid.
I was extremely happy to find a butter bell made in the USA. I purchased this and had no problem putting in the 1/4# stick of butter. I put in 1/3 cup of cold water and changed the water on day 2 (just to be proactive). On day 3, the butter was rancid. I had noticed when I originally put the lid on the bottom that on one side there is a slight opening. The top is not flush with the bottom. I thought that it would not matter because maybe the ceramic that holds the butter protects & seals it at that point. I just put in another quarter stick of butter and 1/3 cup of iced water. If this does not work, I will send back and need to pay shipping. If I need to return, I am not certain that I will try another. On 3-29-18, I had made the decision to send back. My second attempt was not successful. I changed the water every other day with iced water. I send back. I really wanted this to work.

LOVE love our butter bay, soft butter at our disposal
LOVE love our butter bay. We have a family of toast eaters. We also make a lot of muffins. I wanted the butter ready to spread. My friend keeps her butter on the countertop in a little crock with a lid, but it was not meant to be a butter bay. This motivated me to see what is out there on the market. I came close to ordering other brands with good reviews, but settled on this one due to the reviews and the fact that is American made. The lid does not sit perfectly flush, but this has not bothered us or caused any problems. The butter does occasionally fall into the water as you lift it out. This depends on the suction formed and the temperature of the water in my opinion. It has only happened a few times since purchase a few months ago. None of this bothers us too much. The benefit of having butter ready to spread has outweighed any of these issues. We use standard size butter sticks or half size and just leave them on the counter until softened. The company also has a video demonstrating how to fill it. We change out the water once per day or more if cooking in the kitchen.

I was disappointed. You can eliminate the water because the butter will fall into it Just use it as a regular butter dish, and the butter stays fresh without putting water in every few days. The quality of the glass ware itself is very nice, good, rich color, and well made.

Works Pretty Well - Good Deal For The Money
PRO: Keeps Butter fresh and soft for easy spreading. Looks decent on the table. Cleans easily with hot water & Dawn liquid soap. CON: Only holds One Quarter Lb. of Butter. You have to be really careful to push butter into keeper VERY FIRMLY or it may fall out into the water container. May still fall out occasionally. Suggest you use only 1/4 Cup of water instead of suggested 1/3 Cup.
