This is a great kit and has given me exactly what I needed to convert some older doors into modern hardware. I had to redrill the latch bore because it was too small in all of the doors, and sometimes had to redrill the recessed hole for the latch because it wasn't lined up or deep enough. Attaching it to the door with screws before drilling kept everything steady and made the process much faster. Sometimes the nut that holds the saw in place comes a little loose, but I just need to be careful to tighten that more before use.

I have a 50 year-old solid wood door that needed a new knob. The hole was too small and door knobs are not available in that size anymore. I stumbled across this option and decided to try it. It worked perfectly and I am sure saved me hundreds of dollars not having to hire a professional. I only had to secure it with the existing holes in the door and drill out the hole. I didn’t have to do anything else. This was truly a miracle for me!

I purchased a digital front door lock to replace the lock on our 70 year old wood door. I removed the old lock and tried to replace it with the new lock. Unfortunately, the old lock had a 2” hole and the new one is 2 1/8”. The old bolt hole was 7/8” ,the new one was 1”. . I tried to drill the holes larger but it seems impossible to drill holes slightly larger. I called 2 local carpenters to re drill the holes and both said a new predrilled door could be installed for $ 300 to $ 350..this seemed outrageous. I looked for a way to enlarge the holes and found this drill jig. It fits around the door and screws in. Thakit included a 2 1/8” and 1” hole drill. I drilled the holes easily and the locks fit correctly. The wood door was southern yellow pine and it cut easily. The instruction sheet said for soft wood only so perhaps it wouldn’t drill metal or fiberglass but for me it worked great and saved a few hundred dollars and a lot of time. Update: On July 5 . I drilled holes in the face and edge or the door and added deadbolts. Simple and easy to do and they work well.

I installed a dead bolt in a steel garage door using this jig. It fit the door and centered the holes perfectly. For $12, including the drill bits is amazing. Although its not recommended (if it broke the bits I figured I'd throw them out given the low cost), I drilled through the steel door (cutting oil and lots of smoke...) and the bits survived. Very highly recommended.

Arrived super fast. Followed the directions and had my 2 new deadbolts installed in less than 30 minutes. Plastic guides didn't leave marks on the doors. The hole saw blades cut quick and easy. Good quality, durable and easy to use.

This door lock installation kit gets the job done, but it has a few drawbacks. The guide template is helpful for basic alignment, especially if you’re new to installing door locks, but it doesn’t always feel as secure or precise as it should. You have to double-check your positioning to avoid mistakes. The hole saw works decently on wooden doors, but the carbon steel doesn’t seem as durable as expected and can dull quicker with repeated use. It’s fine for a one-time or occasional project, but probably not the best choice for frequent or professional use. Overall, it’s a decent kit for the price and convenience, but don’t expect top-tier quality or long-term durability.

This tool is a life saver. When trying to fit newer modern door hardware to a thinner solid door made it almost zero effort. The holes in the door were half the size I needed, this tool made everything much easier.

This seems great for drilling a hole in a blank door, but I've got a few tips if you're enlarging the hole from an older doorknob. -Use the current latch holes if at all possible. I was able to do this with mine and it really helped everything line up. -Since there is no center support on an enlargement, we need to do what we can to keep the hole saw from wandering. I ended up using a small clamp to hold the unit together and grooved the start of each cut in reverse to keep the teeth from biting in so hard. Those worked well, but the most helpful thing was to use the saw to cut out a hole on a piece of scrap wood, then leave the plug on the drill bit. You still need to keep a tight grip on the drill (and use a side handle if you have one), but everything ran smoother after I did that. -One final thing, don't run the hole saw all the way through, even after you've cleared each side. Your cuts will almost never be 100% straight and you'll likely just chew up the back side of the guide on the opposite side.

I was doing this for the first time as a DIY and the results turned out better than I had expected. There are some concerns when using it such as the hole guide being wobbly if you are using the guide extended. I extended the guide to 2-3/4" backset and there really is no locking mechanism (at least that I could see via instructions), so preferably pre-drill the center point before going straight in to avoid misplacement. The hole saws worked well but I do see them not lasting if you are doing a lot of doors. As some have mentioned also, make sure you double check and measure that its centered because it doesn't exactly fit flush, and sometimes has gaps on both sides. I won't fault the product though because it got the job done.
