What's the difference between the x540-t2 and x550-t2 ?
Has anyone actually gotten close to the 10gbps connection speed for this card? pcie 2.0 has limit of 5 gt/s or about 4gpbs max. so can it be 10gb?
Will this card negotiate down to a pcie gen 3 x2? i think my only free x4 slot only runs in x2 mode which is why i'm asking.
does this work with windows 11?

Seamless Connectivity and Efficiency

As a solutions architect who has recently started working from home, I needed a reliable and high-speed network card to handle my upgraded home internet connection, which is now a fiber connection at 5Gbps+. I also required higher throughput to my work's datacenter. The 10Gtek 10Gb Dual RJ45 Port Network Card with X540 Controller has proven to be an excellent choice.First and foremost, this network card delivers outstanding performance. With dual RJ45 ports and the X540 controller, it supports 10Gbps speeds, ensuring that my connection remains fast and stable. This has been crucial for my workflow, as I often need to transfer large files and access remote servers without any lag.Upgrading my home internet to a fiber connection at 5Gbps+ meant I needed a network card that could handle such speeds efficiently. The 10Gtek network card has met these demands perfectly, providing the necessary throughput to my work's datacenter. This has significantly improved my productivity, allowing me to access and manage data quickly and efficiently. The installation process was straightforward, and the card works seamlessly with my Windows systems and Hyper-V servers. The packaging was fantastic, and the install was as simple as expected. However, the only negative experience I had was finding compatible drivers. Windows Update didn’t recognize the hardware, and the manufacturer’s website didn’t have any readily available drivers. I ended up going to the chip manufacturer’s website and found the appropriate driver, which I successfully installed. No driver disks or instructions were provided. The build quality of this network card is on par with what I expected, providing a solid and functional product. It feels robust enough for long-term use without being overly impressive. Additionally, the card's design ensures efficient heat dissipation, preventing overheating even during prolonged use. One feature I particularly appreciate is the network activity lights, which, while almost standard, provide clear indicators of network status and activity. The device is also void of any additional noise, making it ideal for a quiet home office environment.Additionally, the value for the money is exceptional. This network card offers high-end performance and features at a reasonable price point, making it a great investment for anyone needing reliable network connectivity. In summary, the 10Gtek 10Gb Dual RJ45 Port Network Card with X540 Controller is an excellent investment for anyone needing high-speed and reliable network connectivity. It has significantly enhanced my home office setup, providing seamless and efficient access to my work's datacenter. If you're looking for a network card that offers great value for the money, exceptional performance, and broad compatibility, I highly recommend this product. Despite the minor inconvenience with the drivers, it has been a game-changer for my workflow and connectivity needs.

Excellent product, but need some work to get it to work in Win 11

I built a NAS from old computer parts. The built-in ethernet on MB is only 1 gb, but I need faster speed. This 10 gb card has good reviews and good price. So, I bought two. Installation on the NAS was simple, and no additional driver was needed. A driver download was needed for it to work in Win 11. This was the only minor hurdle installing the card. Excellent transfer speed.

Works great on Windows 10, 11, and Server 2022

I bought multiple of these. Installed seamlessly on a ASRock B550 motherboard running Windows Server 2022 and am able to consistently reach speeds of near 10 Gbps on Cat 6a cable on a Trendnet 10 Gbps switch connecting my home network. Windows installed drivers automatically with no problems. Also installed easily on Windows 10 and 11 PCs.

Replaced other brand flaky card - now working flawlessly

I previously had a cheaper 10gb Network card with a bright red heat sink, but it was very flaky - constantly going down.It eventually took the entire desktop off the network. This installed easily and has not been a problem since. Strong network connections. Drivers automatically downloaded and installed.Just a note, this is card is using my Dell PCIe 4x port - the only one available. Working flawlessly.

No automatic driver installation. See below for instructions. Otherwise works well.

No automatic driver installation for Windows 10/11. Download the intel network adapter for Windows 10 driver package from intel's website. Go to Device Manager and find the unrecognized device (listed as Ethernet Controller), and manually install the drivers in this path:Wired_driver_x64\PROXGB\Winx64\NDIS65Otherwise it seems to work well so far.

Great inexpensive way to add 10G.

I bought this to add 10G to a PC in order to transfer a large number of files to a NAS. Worked well, I think the PC is about 10 years old. Files from the PC transferred at a speed of 150-220 Mbps due to the speed limitations of the spinning hard drives but still much faster that a 1G network. After transferring the files from the PC I put the card in a Synology DS 1821+ to use for backing up the first NAS and it worked great in that as well.

Faulty Windows driver, failed throughput

Drivers for Windows 11 took an hour to find and required downloading the entire Intel network driver set just to get it installed. Constantly disconnects/reconnects every 5 seconds, so the driver is faulty. Worst of all even when connected via 40gb fiber to a machine across the room it didn't get over 1.2gbps. I'm assuming the Windows driver is at fault, and it may work fine on *nix, but this is just unacceptable. Intel needs to work with Microsoft to get the driver situation fixed so that end users don't have to deal with this kind of crap - it's not like we can troubleshoot things like we can on Linux. We have to endlessly read forums with unpaid volunteers telling us to run chkdsk over and over and over again. Replacing with NON-intel network devices. I'm looking forward to at some point never using Windows or any other Microsoft product ever again. Others who are using this device with Windows - server os or otherwise - verify your actual network throughput using iperf3.
