Will this work with a pistol belt and Y harness?

Pistol belt, yes. Y Harness, quite possibly. I have a full harness attached to mine, but I don't see why a Y harness wouldn't work.

For those who answered about molle compatible - how many rows/columns are needed to support the molle on this?

Mine is packed in my gear bag so I'm going from memory, but I believe that it is 4 rows

what material is this made off?

Tactical Polyester. I have found it to be a good little bag for me.

Does this have straps on the back that can be used to hang from an Alice type suspenders rings as well as Alice clips ?

Yes, in fact mine came with two Alice clips on it. I used them to hold the belt on.
