The Man in the Iron Mask

I have seen many movie adaptations of Alexander Dumas' classic story. I love the classic authors and have tried to get a nice collection of movie adaptations. I love this one. I saw it on television when it was originally broadcast and looked for it for years. I didn't realize it was available for purchase until recently. I love it still. I enjoyed all the actors, especially Patrick McGoohan and Ralph Richardson. I thought the story was well done, captivating and entertaining. Now that I am older, I lean towards movies that create more mental stimulation and deeper thinking. This one fits the bill. Great movie.

I'd never seen this version of "The Man in the Iron Mask" before purchasing these discs, though I'm a swashbuckler collector and a fan of Richard Chamberlain from "The Three Musketeers" and "The Four Musketeers" films. This is an excellent, if somewhat altered, rendition of the Dumas story. The first hour is rather leisurely paced, though entertaining, but the second half really hums. The story has action, intrigue, betrayal, romance, and lots of gorgeous costumes and locations. If you like Richard Chamberlain's work (very fine here, especially in his distinction between Louis and Philippe), swashbucklers, or the Richard Lester "Three / Four Musketeers", you'll probably enjoy this too.

This movie, I found out is actually based on the last book of Alexandre Dumas, Three Musketeers series. I didn't know this so I am going to read all the books in the set. Back to the movie. It was one I had on VHS and had to have it. I really like Richard Chamberlain. To me is a classic actor. He is fantastic in about everything he does. It takes place in France during the reign of Louis the 14th. It turns out that dear Louis has a twin brother. It's great.

This movie lived up to my memory of it. I first saw it on television back in the late 1970s or 80s when it was first shown on network. I was extremely happy to see that it had been filmed in a widescreen format. Richard Chamberlain and the entire cast do justice to a fine script. Beautifully costumed and filmed in fine locations this is well worth the watching. The Blu Ray is a fine reproduction of this film. If you enjoy Richard Chamberlain and a classic story....this may be the movie for you.

I'm glad for the closed captioning as my spouse is hard of hearing. This is one of my favorite movies, and this one has been improved in clarity and color. It is so much better than the Leo D. version - mainly because it isn't vulgar - it is classy!

This is by far a superior version of Man in the Iron Mask than the one with Leonardo DiCaprio! Richard Chamberlain's portrayal of the Sun King is excellent and Patrick McGoohan as Fouquet is great. Glad this quality film has been released. It's SO worth the money!

Blu-ray arrived quickly and in great condition. First time seeing this 1976 version, very well done in every way. Filled with familiar faces, especially British actors. Widescreen, English subtitles, sparkling print.

Of all the production versions of this movie, this is my favorite. Although it says Blu-ray, it does also come with a DVD that has very good quality. It's worth every penny, even if you only play the DVD.

I appreciate Richard Champerlain I have his movies in Shogun(captioned) and now this movie also...he was one of the great actors as far as I am concerned I wish I could get the Thornbirds on Blu Ray or DVD My brother says that Clavell's novel was a remake by the Japanese to aid people in mastering the Japanese language

Excellent storyline with excellent actors. Always liked Richard Chamberlain even way back to his days as Dr Kildare on his Television series.
