I am looking at using this as flooring. I need good tire traction but also needs to be comfortable to walk barefoot. Should I buy Smooth or Textured?

Hello Scott. It really is a matter of personal preference. Many thousands of floor applications have been done with the textured and the vast majority of customers are absolutely fine with the textured including on barefoot. On a floor, I would recommend at least some texture in the application. One option you may want to consider is mixing the smooth and the textured together. For instance, if you mix a gallon of textured and a gallon of smooth the resulting mix would then be about 50% less texture than the textured version straight out of the can. By doing this, you'd still have some good traction.

Can I apply the clear over herculiner truck bed coatings?

Yes! You absolutely can - providing you do a couple of things in the prep. First clean it well, then just very lightly roughen the tops of the peaks of the texture with about 80 grit sandpaper. By just scoring it a little, you will help the new Durabak to have something to grab onto and help it attain a mechanical bond as well as a chemical bond. Then, of course, clean off any of the shavings and then you are ready to apply.

Will this work on a composite deck?

It is unspecified exactly what type of composite deck is being used here. The most common would be Trex so we'll answer in regards to that. No, the adhesion of Durabak direct onto Trex would be poor. The recycled materials used to make Trex is mainly plastic bags and bottles i.e. PE and PET. There is enough PE to make chemical adhesion impossible both for a primer and for urethane, so you have to sand it well and rely on a mechanical bond. Thus you can’t put clear anti-slip straight on it and there is no clear primer for it. However if it is looking worn and needs to be painted with a color, then sand it well, give it a solvent wipe and apply Durabak direct to it. It may not last as long as other Durabak applications where you get a mechanical as well as a chemical bond. It would be best to do a test in a small area. Clean, sand, apply Durabak and wait 3-4 days to test the bonding. Use a flat head screwdriver to try to pry it up. If it comes up in a sheet, then you do not have a good bond. If it comes up in tiny pieces then you do have a pretty good bond.

I started it as a spray on. Gave up and rolled it on. Looked better actually since it was even. I coated my jeep with red in 2016, now I am looking to repair/coat again in 2020. Yes, it has seen some rough times in the past 4 years...
