Premetto che sono il tipo di persona che se non ha la torcia in tasca non si muove... in tasca tutto il giorno e accanto al cuscino di notte, abitudine. Ho preso questa torcia -anche se costava 10 in più di quanto pagherei una torcia- perchè tra le varie modalità aveva la firefly, ovvero modalità risparmio energetico massimo, massima durata, e luce perfetta per muoversi al buio completo senza rimanere abbagliati o svegliare gli altri. Di solito le torce hanno low-high e strobo, questa ha firefly-low-med-high e sos e altra cosa che ho apprezzato è la modalità sos che si attiva con 2 push ravvicinati, insomma è una modalità raggiungibile solo se ti serve, non fa parte della normale rotazione firefly-low-med-high. La torcia tiene memoria dell'ultima impostazione, quindi se la spegni in low quando la riaccendi è ancora low, altro punto a favore. Appena arrivata dovete togliere la linguetta salva batteria e riavvitare la parte interruttore e la torcia funziona. Altra nota positiva i filetti, senza nessun gioco e ingrassati che denotano una cura molto superiore alla media. Appena arrivata l'ho caricata col cavetto in dotazione, stimo la spediscano carica al 50% ma non ho fatto misurazioni. Una prova che ho fatto è di durata a massima luminosità, la batteria era carica al 92% (misurazione mia), quindi ho lasciato accesa la torcia al massimo (high) in un mezzo bicchiere d'acqua fredda, dopo circa 1 ora ho dovuto cambiare l'acqua perchè ormai non dissipava più calore ed era diventata calda, insomma la torcia funzionava ancora dopo 1 ora e 42 minuti anche se mi avvisava con i lampeggi ogni 5 minuti che rimaneva meno di 30 min di carica residua nella batteria. Ovviamente dopo un ora e trenta la torcia diminuisce da sola l'intensità luminosa per salvare la batteria e per non lasciarti al buio. Nessuno sano di mente lascerebbe accesa la torcia in high per più di 5 minuti in aria libera, diventerebbe caldissima, oltre i 50 gradi, in quel caso oltre a rovinare irrimediabilmente la batteria rischiate che la torcia vada in protezione spegnendosi per evitare danni irrimediabili. Non vi ho parlato della luminosità, la firefly è perfetta e dura accesa giorni, la modalità low è già luminosissima e adatta a qualsiasi uso, la med e sopra tutto la high sono esageratamente luminose, accecanti, un abbagliante auto fa meno luce. Un capitolo a parte la batteria, appena presa in mano ne senti il peso, elevato, 49 grammi se non ricordo male, vi faccio presente che esistono batterie di "cartone" che pesano 30 grammi e durano qualche minuto. Questa batteria è anche più lunga di una classica 18650, lo si vede subito. Facendola breve, riconosci a vista e peso una batteria vera e di qualità. Io ho testato la sua capacità dopo averla scaricata (probabilmente l'ho scaricata fino al 4%) e poi ricaricata al 100% è risultata da 2843mAh. Solo scartandola puoi scoprire il produttore ma per esperienza direi che è una samsung o una panasonic. Che altro dirvi, non avrei scritto una recensione lunga se la torcia non mi avesse soddisfatto oltre ogni aspettativa, avrei voluto solo una testa artigliata come le tattiche ma tutto non si può avere. Nelle foto vedere la dotazione, anche 2 o-ring di riserva che credo non vi serviranno mai, ma meglio averli e non usarli che non averli e averne bisogno... Uno dei migliori acquisti mai fatti.

I have to confess- I have a lot of flashlights. Ironically I'm very much not afraid of the dark and will annoy my wife walking around the house without turning lights on sometimes, but while I don't mind the dark when I want to be able to see something in the dark I don't want to be squinting at it and don't want to be hunting for a flashlight forever. It was because of this that I first encountered Wuben's flashlights- a good while ago I backed their Kickstarter for the Knight X-0 flashlight which has been one of my EDC flashlights ever since I got it, and I've since picked up a G-2 keychain flashlight and just received the Kickstarter E-1 MagSafe light. So when I saw that there was a 20% off code for the C3, I figured I wouldn't be disappointed- and I was right. The C3 is a modest bit bigger than what I usually carry around, which is fine- it's still small enough that you can carry it in a pocket fairly easily, but it's large enough that I wouldn't want to carry it all the time under normal circumstances. That extra size though is worth it, since it is BRIGHT. When I first got it, I tested it compared to my X-0 and initially thought that it wasn't much brighter- but when I took them outside and tested them in the dark, the C3 definitely puts out a lot more light. The C3 has a relatively focussed lens- it isn't adjustable, but with the power that the LED has it works well without needing the adjustable focus. One slight thing that I don't like about my X-0 is that if I run the battery down, I'm not going to be able to use it until I recharge it and I was thinking this would be the case with the C3. However, while it is rechargeable, it is quite easy to swap in a fresh battery (assuming you've picked one up and have charged it). It would have been nice to have been able to use standard AA (or AAA) batteries at the cost of brightness in a pinch, but that's definitely a very minor gripe. Not that I expect to be needing to worry about it- with the 2600mAh battery I don't imagine that I'm going to need to recharge it anytime soon, and 18650 batteries aren't too expensive if you do want spares. Like most flashlights these days, it has several different modes you can swap between with the switch- there are 4 brightness levels and a strobe function. It remembers what brightness you last used as well, which is nice. It is a pity it doesn't have a shortcut to the brightest mode like the X-0 does though, but it only takes a second to cycle through the power levels to get to it.
