This hardwire kit was super easy to install. It works. Parking mode records as expected. I'm in Phoenix, AZ, where it's hotter than blazes. Per the manufacturer directions, I selected the collision-activated parking mode because temperature are so high. In the cooler months, I'll select motion detection parking mode. I've had no electrical issues. I wonder if the people who experienced battery drain have an older battery, or they're recording at all times. I've had only positive experiences with this product.

Wonderful accessory. It allows the camera to continue working when the vehicle is parked. Frees up the accessory outlet. Took all of a minute to install. Look Ma, NO WIRES FLOATING AROUND MY CONSOLE!

Telling consumers that the dash cam doesn't work completely UNLESS you wire into in your car's fuse box is ridiculous for two reasons: the dash cam should have worked out of the box; wiring to the fuse box is not like using the little screwdriver to install a couple AA batteries. The fact that dash cam manufacturers know there is a port as easy to plug into as the cigarette lighter and not utilizing it is obscene. This OBD cable was as easy as plugging into the cigarette lighter. GET IT if it works with your dash cam. My dash cam now has power for when I'm driving and when in Parking Mode. Amen.

We have 3 of these hardwire charger cables because we have 3 Vantrue N4 dash cameras. I do like these hardwire kits and they are useful as this allows our cameras to pickup events that happened after we leave our cars. I will say that this can put a little drain on the battery so it is important that you have a good battery in your car, this will cut out when the battery voltage is low on your car so you dont have to worry about your battery being dead if your car sits for two weeks. One of our cars (2013 dodge challenger SRT) had the original battery and it did pretty good for being 7 years old but shortly after installing this hardwire kit on that car then it started being dead in the morning. I could tell the battery was going bad because it didnt take long for the dash cam to turn off after I turned the car off. But again, that was no fault of this hardwire kit because it shuts off at 11.6 volts. I mention this because I think some people might install this kit into a car that has a bad battery unknowingly and they will blame the hardwire kit because their car didnt have problems starting prior and they can end up leaving a bad review for a good product. I have installed a new battery in this car and havent had any problems since. And this car can sit for two to three weeks at a time as it has just become a weekend car. We have a 2019 chevy spark and also a 2021 Kia Seltos. For the challenger and the spark we notice if they sit over night or they sit for a while that the dash cams will turn off for a bit when the cars are started, they will turn on again eventually but I figured they turn off because the voltage drops momentarily below the threshold of 11.6 volts and comes back up when the car is running. This isnt a big problem for me as I just unplug the dash cam from the base before starting the car and then plug the camera back in once the car is running and I make sure the dash cam is recording before driving. Our Kia Seltos has the "start stop" technology, the engine automatically turns off when we come to a stop at traffic lights and turns back on automatically when we take our foot off the brake. Not sure what they have done with the technology in this car but it starts so effortlessly that the dash cam has never turned off in this car when it has been started. I think this is a worth while investment to have with the Vantrue Dash cams (we have 3 of the Vantrue N4 dash cams), I have reviewed footage of people walking around and looking inside car when we werent there and then they seem to notice the dash cam before deciding to walk away. I like how this plugs into the OBD2 port of the car so I dont have to play around with any wires in the fuse panel and it makes installation much quicker. (And I was a diesel truck technician for 13 years so I appreciated the less hassle). I would expect with many cars that people will experience the dash cams turning off momentarily when the car is started with this hardwire kit after sitting for a period of time. This isnt a big deal for me, but it could be a big deal for many people because sometimes the dash cam doesnt come right back on until you unplug it and plug it back in. But it wont miss footage up until the car is started.

I ordered it for a Dashcam of another brand as I just needed power from the OBD-2 port. I know other adapters also have a switch which this one doesn't, but it has the arrangement to glue it to the surface. The build quality is excellent as well, and as verified, it is capable of delivering around 5W on average. One more thing about how the cable is flat, it fits easily under the headliner and the trim.
