Is this safe to use in a microwave?

I have never used it in a microwave but why would you want to use it in the microwave? It is strictly meant to stop water or a liquid from boiling on the stove

Not sure what you mean by safe, but I've used them for at least 5-6 years with no problems. Wouldn't do without them!

Do you keep the pot minder in the pot after you add food? Or do you take it out before foodnis added to boikig water

I leave the pot finder in the pot while the food boils, it stops it from boiling over. The pot finder stop things from boiling over on the stove. I use it for several things, pasta, potatoes, etc.

This piece of flat disc pottery is great. It actiually does stop anything from boiling over in a saucepan. Even boiling milk. Would not be without it. Great lil item
