Teach toddlers safe ways to express big feelings Toddlers are still learning how to speak, socialize, and understand their emotions. It's common for them to react with their hands when they get frustrated―but hitting is never okay. What to Do When You Feel Like Hitting helps toddlers understand why hitting is not allowed and shows them how to react to their feelings with actions that are safe and kind. This illustrated entry into no hitting books for toddlers features: Alternatives to hitting ―Kids will learn how to use "gentle hands" to squeeze a stuffed animal when they feel upset, scribble a picture to get out their frustration, and practice taking deep breaths to calm down. A light touch ―The language is kid-friendly and positive, encouraging toddlers to understand and communicate their feelings, not just keep their hands to themselves. Engaging illustrations ―Big, beautiful pictures help kids see the ideas in action and keep their attention on the page. Ok
Pretty good, maybe a little bit too long, my 3 year old just manages to sit through it. It does have simple good ideas for little ones to manage their anger

Amazing book!
I bought this for my daughter to read to my 2 year old granddaughter who was going through a phase of hitting! She loves books so thought this was best way to get through to that her behaviour was not acceptable. They read the book every evening before bed - the hitting stopped and she could relate to her feelings. Who would have thought that a book could have such a positive effect in such a short amount of time but it worked!

Very helpful book
Our little one often chooses this book at story time. There are practical suggestions for helping process strong feelings. Overall a very helpful and engaging book for dealing with emerging aggressive behaviour.

Behavioural tool
Great book for children struggling with hitting. After one week of reading our toddler has learned to cope in different ways with the help of this book. I think it does a great job at outlining frustration and how to manage the behaviour. 10/10 recommend

Not a magic solution but it helped
My 3 year old son went through a rough patch with hitting when our second child came home. It was pretty awful and not much seemed to get through. He did enjoy this book and although he struggled to implement the techniques when he was heightened, he did enjoy the book. It seemed to help with him identifying his emotions etc and often after a meltdown he would request it as his bed time book that night.

If your kid hits…
This book has been a wonderful addition to our toddler’s library. We bought it to help teach that it’s okay to have big feelings, but it’s not okay to hit. Instead, we’re working on using words like “No, thank you” to express frustration or set boundaries. The story is simple, age-appropriate, and easy for toddlers to understand. It has given us a consistent way to talk about emotions and reinforce positive behaviors during everyday situations. While no book is a magic fix, this has been a really helpful conversation starter and a great tool to support what we’re teaching at home. I highly recommend it for parents navigating the toddler years.
