There is nothing about it that would necessarily require in ground but I imagine if you pull the weighted bags too far out you could have tipping issues. Otherwise, I would think it works.

No, This is a BALL RETURN, not a retention net, what you are asking for is the more expensive GOALRILLA YARD GUARD. Very popular in hill country where a missed shot may mean a 15+ minute trek to get your ball back!

Height is same as your basketball net, I'm estimating on width since ours had been put away for the winter ( we reside in New Englsnd), appx 10 -14 ft wide. Hope this helps.
