True Value, and doesn't disappoint in performance per gb/$.
An easy install and great value, the drive performs well with short file copies between the Barracuda and an SSD (Hynix). Note it IS 5400 RPM, NOTE IT IS 128 meg CACHE. These are key factors in your drive purchase, performance vs. battery life. I've found it to be especially efficient with file or file selects under 2 GB for copies between the drives on the same laptop system. File copies and backups via a 1 gb network connection work great most of the time, and the read/writes are over 60 meg/sec write via the network to another 7200 RPM drive (WD Blue WZEZ), even 100 meg/sec to a (boot) SSD on the network. Expect the benchmarks to be correct, value at a good performance rate. As stated smaller transfers also have great burst over the 1 gb network, with less than 1.5 Gb copying in under 6-10 seconds. This drive does well on smaller copy transfers than larger files due to its 128 meg cache. It's a great second system and backup drive for an SSD (boot) drive based system, on a laptop or desktop. This isn't a workstation drive unless you work backups (Win 10 File history is FAST, as is Win 7 type backup), in which its value speaks for itself. I'd recommend this drive based on price and performance for all things considered. AS-SSD benchmark is reported as 130 meg/sec read, 120 meg/sec write on 4k transfers. It's consistent with other tested benchmarks for the same drive/model. 5 stars, not to mention I have a successful history with Seagate products! TC

Worked Well for My Security System Storage Despite Being Used
I didn’t realize this drive was used when I purchased it, but it has been working well so far. I installed it in my eufy HomeBase to store local video recordings from my security cameras, and setup was quick and smooth. Performance has been stable, and it handles continuous recording without issues. Despite being pre-owned, it has performed reliably for my needs and serves as a good storage solution.

Works great
All is good! I Ordered this 5TB hard drive for our new Eufy camera system. After the drive was formatted ONE TIME, it showed only 1.13 TB was available for storage and the rest of this drive was "USED". I have since learned that this is just the strange way Eufy shows that 4.77 TB is "USEABLE: but not necessarily USED.

Over priced, for what you get
Seagate used to reserve the "Barracuda" label for their higher performance drives. Now they're sticking the Barracuda name on everything and are now calling Barracuda "Pro" drives for once was a standard Barracuda performance HDD. So I thought I was getting a higher performance drive since it had the Barracuda name on it and was willing to pay more for that. However, what I come to find out is that this Barracuda HDD is nothing special over their external USB 3.0 "OneTouch" or "Backup Plus" portable HDDs. The price on this 2.5in 5TB internal Barracuda HDD is currently $135-150. You can purchase a Seagate 5TB USB 3.0 portable OneTouch HDD for $100. Now here's where it gets interesting. If you crack open the case of Seagate's external portable "OneTouch" HDD, you will come to find out it's the exact same model Barracuda 5400 RPM 128MB cache 2.5in HDD as this internal 2.5in Barracuda HDD but costs much less. However, opening up the case of their portable HDDs would void the warranty, but this particular listing doesn't have a manufacturer warranty so what do you have to lose? Purchase their portable "OneTouch" 5TB HDD for $40-$50 less, crack open the case and remove the HDD if you need an internal HDD. The portable version is this exact same Barracuda model HDD, with a SATA 3 interface and plugged into a SATA3 to USB interface, and they give you a good quality USB cable and HDD carrying case to boot. When I found out this Barracuda drive had no additional performance gains, and no manufacturer warranty as I verified on Seagate's website, I returned it and purchased their portable HDD and cracked open the case. Now I not only have the exact same HDD which cost significantly less, I also gained an extra USB 3.0 HDD enclosure case and a nice quality included USB cable. Take that bad Seagate marketing!

Cheap high-capacity 2.5-inch storage, but terrible for data rewrites
What makes this such a cheap 2.5-inch 5TB HDD is a non-standard data recording method called "Shingled Magnetic Recording" or "SMR". To quote Google AI, "When comparing a Seagate Barracuda with SMR (Shingled Magnetic Recording) to one with PMR (Perpendicular Magnetic Recording), the key difference is that the SMR drive will generally have significantly slower write speeds due to its overlapping track design, while the PMR drive offers faster write performance, making it better for write-intensive tasks, even though the SMR drive might have a higher storage capacity at a lower price point." What that means is, it's good for data that you put on it once and never delete or update again, and slow for handling data that needs to be rewritten. I had to use mine for rewriting due to a lack of storage elsewhere, but every time I try to delete the latest version of the Unreal Engine 5 and replace it with the newest one, it makes the drive slow to a crawl. I have to constantly give my 5TB Barracudas down time and defrag them whenever I do big delete or write operation on them. I even had to open my computer case and point a full-sized desk fan at them whenever I run them just to keep them from overheating. Bottom line: Get this if you need a cheap, high-capacity 2.5-inch 5TB HDD you will never rewrite data to. But if you need drives to store data you want to rewrite on a regular basis, get a CMR/PMR HDD or an SSD.

Good so far for virtual storage pool
I'm running five of these in my virtual storage pool (Windows Server 2016 storage pool) for my home server, four months so far. One drive developed two bad sectors, a reformat mapped them out. Maybe in another six months I'll trust them as much as the WD Red drives they replaced - until then all my volumes are three-way mirror, and I have offsite backups. Temperatures are low, of course - a main advantage of going to 2.5" drives. And these are pretty much silent. Not the fastest kid on the block - no surprise there. Still, I see less impact from SMR than I expected. It's interesting to note that the external version of this 5TB drive contains the exact same drive. Everything except drive serial number is exactly the same externally, as well as firmware and any other params I could inspect with HD Tune. At the time of writing the price for an external drive is 119 vs 189 for this internal version. Of course, pulling out the drive from the external enclosure voids any warranty, so it's really a question of how much the warranty is worth. Will more than one out of three drives fail during the warranty period? UPDATE 8/17/2018: All five drives have been running well since January. I wiped and reformatted them back then before redeploying. I have a spare drive but am not bothering with hot swap as uptime is not critical for my home server - I can accept a day's downtime if a drive fails hard. These little drives are performing as well as can be expected. Raising to five stars. UPDATE 12/16/2018: It's been a year now for most of my drives. Still running well. One drive has disconnected from my SAS card twice, hard to tell if it's the drive, card or cabling. In the process I got to see how well double redundancy works - the storage pool didn't even flinch, no downtime, no readonly mode, just rebuilt redundancy using free space on other drives while on single redundancy for a few hours. I ejected and reinserted the disconnected drive, and everything was back to normal again (albeit a bit unbalanced free space).

Seagate Barracuda 5TB Internal Hard Drive is the real deal.
OMG. So delighted to get this product 2 days in advance before the Mon. Jan. 26th, 2026 delivery date and before the big winter snow storm Fern. Product and specifications were exact and compatible with my Eufy S380 Homebase storage system. The 2.5" dimension fit perfectly. I was somewhat cautious as it did not come with any screws to secure to the internal tray of the S380 Homebase system, but low and behold, this hard size snaps into the internal casing and doesn't move or shift upon inserting downward into SATA Slots. There is no need for the hard drive screws as 1.) The S380 doesn't come with them and 2.) The 2.5" drive snaps into the designated HD tray. Great idea with not having to mess around with tiny screws. So far it's been 4 days since receiving and installing and I'm very happy overall. Drive is quick, super quiet, and using the Eufy app very easy to format and begin continuous recording or setup for multiple recording events. Not sure how the seller got this product to my home in lightning time, but I'm not complaining. Kudos and shout outs to receiving my order, expediting so quickly, and delivering way ahead than I expected. Would definitely purchase from this vendor once again. I have 4 devices connected to my S380 homebase system and now thinking about some internal cameras to monitor if not home.

I Love It....! (Seagate 1TB BarraCuda SATA...)
This Review Is Specifically For The: "Seagate 1TB BarraCuda SATA 6Gb/s 128MB Cache 2.5-Inch 7mm Internal Hard Drive (ST1000LM048)" It's Fast For A 5400 RPM Drive But I Think It Only Works With USB 3.0 Or Above Cables... I Have 2 USB 2.0 And An Enclosure And It Won't Work At All With Them.... Fortunately, I Also Bought A StarTech USB 3.0 to 2.5" SATA III Hard Drive Adapter Cable At The Same Time And It Works With It Just Fine.... It Also Works Great Installed In My Toshiba Satellite C655 Laptop (It's Ultimate Purpose Of Course).... NOW - Keep In Mind ALL Hard Drives/ Disk Drives Can Fail... AND If They're Going To Fail, They Usually Fail Within The First 6 - 9 Months Of Regular Use... SO - Back Up Everything For The First Year Or So On ALL New Drives.... (Actually, You Should Be Doing That Anyway All The Time...) If The Drive Lasts Longer Than 9 Months To A Year, It's A Good Chance The Drive Is Fine And Will Last The Normal Mean Time Between Failures Of Something Like 800,000 Hours Or So... BUT Keep In Mind, Anything Can Happen.... ALSO NOTE - THE DRIVE COMES BLANK - They All Do As Far As I Know..... I Don't Know If You Need To Format It Because The Recovery Thumb Drive Did All That Good Stuff For Me Automatically.... I Installed It In My Laptop And Inserted The USB Thumb Drive Recovery Thingy I Made Following Toshiba's Instructions... It Took A While But Not Too Long (Naturally, We're Talking Like 13GB Here For Windows 7 From A USB 2.0 Thumb Drive...) And I'm Back To "Out Of The Box" New Again, Except With A Ridiculously Large Drive....LOL Old Drives A 300GB.... I Don't Know About Warranties Or Fakes Like Some Reviews Are Talking About, But Mine Has A Green Label And Came Sealed In A New Looking Anti-static Pouch...

HDD 1Tb
