Though marketed as a raunchy teen sex comedy à la Porky's , Just One of the Guys is an amusing and well-acted comic riff on gender roles. Believing that she's lost a journalism contest because she's a woman, high school student Joyce Hyser disguises herself as a boy in order to see how the other half lives. Her investigation leads her to discover some interesting truths about how men and women treat each other in social and romantic situations. The screenplay by coproducers Jeff Franklin (a veteran TV scribe) and Dennis Feldman nicely balances the sex-driven gags with more character-driven material, which is well delivered by Hyser, Clayton Rohner as her eccentric pal, and especially Billy Jacoby as her perpetually aroused brother; the capable cast also includes Sherilyn Fenn and Arye Gross. Eighties music fans should also appreciate the soundtrack, which features tracks by Berlin, Lindsay Buckingham, and the Stooges. --Paul Gaita Convinced that she is not being taken seriously because of her looks, a pretty teenage girl enrolls in a new high school disguised as a boy, setting off a chain of events leading to comic hysteria, and more than a little social awareness. Review: good deal - good movie! came on time in great condition. Funny and good acting. Review: Great 80s movie - A must have for any 80s collection and the ending is wonderful!!

A fun 80s coming of age teen comedy
Just one of the Guys is, partly, a cookie-cutter 1980s teen comedy, but it does deviate partly from being completely cookie-cutter. The story does not start as the "typical" teen romantic comedy, it actually starts out with a theme of sexism as a journalism student named Terri, played by Joyce Hyser, is not entered in a competition by her teacher that would land her an internship at a newspaper, she decides that it is because she is a girl, and decides to enroll at a different school as "Terry" and hopefully get entered into the competition on her journalistic merit. From there it does get into the cookie-cutter 80s teen comedy with Teri falling for one of her classmates Rick Morehouse, played by Clayton Rohner, having to fend off a bully Greg, William Zabka, and being pursued as Terry by another classmate, Sandy, played by Sherilyn Fenn. Of course, hilarity ensues as she tries to hide being a guy and then in the end has to reveal, in spectacular fashion, that she is not a boy. For those looking to get the movie on disc, there is a Blu-Ray version out there that does have a commentary track with at least some of the cast members included. The DVD version just has the movie itself, no extras. It would be nice if there were a bit of behind-the-scenes material, but given that the movie was not anywhere near as big as some of the other 1980s teen comedies, it is not surprising that the release is pretty bare bones. Overall, the movie is good. Probably better than it got credit for being at the time. It definitely does require some suspension of disbelief, just like movies like Don't Tell Mom the Babysitter's Dead require. It is definitely not something that a kid could pull off in real life. But, if you accept it for what it is and do not overanalyze it too much, the movie is enjoyable. The acting is very good, with Billy Jacoby who plays Terri's little brother, Buddy stealing nearly every scene he is in, and Fenn doing sultry about as well as she did in Twin Peaks. While I would not call it a must-see, if you are into 80s comedies, especially the coming of age movies like Fast Times, this is a good one to check out.

Where no woman has ever gone before
Though marketed as a raunchy teen sex comedy à la Porky's, Just One of the Guys is an amusing and well-acted comic riff on gender roles. Believing that she's lost a journalism contest because she's a woman, high school student Joyce Hyser disguises herself as a boy in order to see how the other half lives. Her investigation leads her to the discovery of some interesting truths about how men and women treat each other in social and romantic situations. The screenplay by co-producers Jeff Franklin (a veteran TV scribe) and Dennis Feldman nicely balances the sex-driven gags with more character-driven material, which is well delivered by Hyser, Clayton Rohner as her eccentric pal, and especially Billy Jacoby as her perpetually aroused brother; the capable cast also includes Sherilyn Fenn and Arye Gross. 1980's music fans should also appreciate the soundtrack, which features tracks by Berlin, Lindsay Buckingham, and the Stooges. --Paul Gaita Along the way, she meets & falls for a gold-hearted nerd Rick Morehouse(Clayton Rohner)who becomes her pet project and after helping him through an image makeover & encouraging him to start talking to girls resulting in him taking the most popular girl Deborah(Deborah Goodrich)in school to the high school prom. After Terri deals with numerous episodes in and out of school, including the fending off a group of bullies instigated by jealous bodybuilder bully Greg Tolan(Billy Zabka)who also played the pompous high school bully in THE KARATE KID in the Summer of 1984, dealing with Terri's arrogant possessive college boyfriend Kevin(Leigh McCloskey), and being set up by a blind date with a potential new girlfriend Sandy(Sherilyn Fenn), Terri manages to get accepted as one of the guys. At the conclusion; the hell-bent Greg picks a fight with Rick who ultimately turns the tables in front of the entire prom while Kevin unexpectedly & finally discovers what's been going on when Terri has no choice, but to reveal herself to Rick by proving to him she's not a guy after all & dumps Kevin. Eventually; Terri returns to her own high school & her article finally gets printed in the newspaper, she recieves high commendations from her teacher & friends & finally earns her dream job at the newspaper office, Rick forgives Terri and they become an item. JUST ONE OF THE GUYS ranked number 48 on Entertainment Weekly's list of the "50 Best High School Movies" after it's theatrical release on Friday April 26, 1985 and amassed $11,528,900 at the box office in the Spring of 1985. JUST ONE OF THE GUYS also had some cool 80's songs like *Just One Of The Guys by Shalamar *Girls Got Something Boys Ain't Got by Midnight Star *Jealous by Berlin *Hard Way by Brock/Davis *Trouble by Lindsay Buckingham

Surprised.
I'm giving it 5 stars cause I'm shocked it didn't come damaged. Mine was shipped in a paper brown envelop with no bubble wrap to protect it. However it came in stunning condition. This movie is an 80s classic it has been a go to movie for background noise off tubi for many months so I needed to add it to my collection.

Lass mich mal ran!
