I needed an Alexa-enabled heavy duty relay, and nothing really exists to switch heavy loads. Don't believe manufacturers who say theirs can switch large motors and such - reviews will show melted switches. So, I decided to build my own, using this relay to switch the heavy load - 15A, but a large inductive (motor) load. This appears to be a really nice, heavy-duty relay, and seems to work well. I removed the spade lugs on the switched relay connections as I'm only switching one outlet, and prefer direct connection to 14 gauge copper. I did use the spade lugs for the relay coil connection, with a Tapo Alexa-enabled smart switch driving the coil power. Then, put it all in a metal box (see photo, sans cover). For the smart switch, one nice feature of the Tapo switches is that you can set them to be normally off, so after a power outage, the switch will remain off until turned on - the switch default is to remember the last power state.
