Q: 2001 camry, is this needed when replacing a battery?

I had a 1998 Camry V6, took it in for a California smog check shortly after I replaced the battery. It lost its memory, and had failed the smog check. The 98 Camry onboard computer took a long time to reset. It would be wise to keep the memory intact.

Q: Can this be connected to a battery tender/charger?

The VSTM doesn't care where the power comes from. I used an auto battery with my VSTM. The battery tenders that I am aware of have clamp connectors typical for connecting to battery posts. There should be no problem - maybe a bit awkward - connecting the clamp connectors of the VSTM to the clamp connectors of the battery tender - be sure to observe polarity. Battery tenders used with auto batteries typically provide 12 volts at a couple of amps. That should be far more than is necessary to preservers values in memory circuitry.

Q: Can I trickle charge a battery with this cable?

I do not know why the first answer said NO. This cable has an 8 amp fuse so you could not exceed that but a trickle charge is much less. These have diodes wired in to prevent wrong-way connections and typical diodes cause about .7 volts less on the output side than on the input side so that might reduce the effectiveness of some trickle chargers.

If you are trying to connect the Noco 150 to the OBD data connector as a easy method to start a car with a dead battery, then no, the OBD connector and its associated wiring are not designed to handle the amount of current required to start the engine.
