Stellar DOCSIS 3.1 modem! Works with Comcast: CONFIRMED
The NETGEAR CM1000 is a modem that targets users who primarily are interested in gaming, or streaming HD video on multiple devices. This modem definitely delivers that type of performance. The design is very much in this vein, it looks vaguely futuristic, perhaps alien in its elongated hexagonal case. The two-tone dark charcoal unit affixed to a gray stand also seems a bit off, why two colors? Anyways, the stand is connected by a single screw, but it seems to also be attached using plastic rails, and it seems sturdy enough. It is very obviously meant to only be used in this upright orientation the reasoning for which brings me to my next point... The triangular venting mixes form and function but is heavy on the form, as this modem does throw off some heat! It will warm your hands in the winter no problem. Might even save you on heating bills. It is almost concerning how warm it runs. I often think to power it down overnight or if I leave the house for an extended period. The modem is DOCSIS 3.1, which is a international standard that allows for higher bandwidth over existing Cable TV service. The next generation of internet speed offerings from ISPs will be in the multiples of Gbps, and to take advantage, you will need a modem that is DOCSIS 3.1. Thankfully, this modem is backwards compatible with the older standard DOCSIS 3.0. The modem came assembled on the stand out of the box, along with the customary canary category 5 cable, and power adapter. I didn't use the cat 5, I opted for the Vandesail CAT7 Cable because, well, why not? The category 7 cable has a much higher bandwidth, and will be used in future equipment, so best to be prepared! I also upgraded the coaxial cable in my house to Quad Shield RG-6 Coax 75 Ohm 3Ghz Cable as you see in the included picture. I have the CM1000 connected to a NETGEAR AC1600 which I had from using with DSL internet service. The pair is working seamlessly together, and I am regularly seeing download speeds at the maximum of my service rating of 200Mbps, using Comcast as an ISP. See the included screencap of the speed test. During install, the modem powered up, and went through a few reboots, and after about 10 to 15 minutes, the connection was made. It initially didn't want to to play with the NETGEAR AC1600 router, but after a few power cycles, everything resolved itself, and the two now peacefully coincide. The status indicators are only on the left side of the front, which itself is angled at about 30 degrees away from you if you are looking straight on. A strange design decision, it limits one's vision of them, especially if you must place it on your left. Not a huge deal, but it seems so easy to design a better solution. Fortunately, I haven't had a need to check the indicator LEDs. Conclusion: BUY. An A+ modem, fit for heavy gaming or streaming HD video. PROS: + Easy setup + DOCSIS 3.1 and 3.0 compatible + FAST + Will work with the next generation of speed tiers + Don't have to rent from ISP CONS: - Expensive - LEDs are difficult to view - Runs really warm!

Best modem on COX , Ultimate pkg here and get 24/7 330mbit / 30+ mbit up .. + consistant, low latency to first hop- see picts
Excellent MODEM for COX! The best one ive had, and ive tried/tested the ARRIS SB-6183 , SB-6190 , NETGEAR CM-600 (also a excellent modem!) and now this Netgear CM-1000! There was an issue on cox that caused this modem to disconnect and would only re-connect after a power cycle, however i got a quick reply from [email protected] (after emailing them about the issue) that they were just about to release a new Firmware that would fix the issue, and that they could work with cox to directly send me the FW prior to its full release. ** This firmware has since been release and is live on the cox network ** (thus your CM-1000 will auto update after about 24 hours of being on the cox network, if it even needs it!) About a day or 2 later a tech from netgear confirmed that my modem should have the beta FW (and i too was able to confirm this by looking at the modem's web status page) - Once on this beta FW (2.01.15) the disconnect issue NEVER occurred again (tested for over 14 days, not one disconnect nor any other issue). More important than this, is the awesome performance i have seen from this modem as compared to the other 3/4 modems i have tested over the years. I even see spikes to 550 + mbit while briefly on powerboost (ie like 2-4 seconds). On all of the modems i have tested, they are using the exact same coaxIN - its straight from the Cox Pole (the cox "drop" goes straight from the Tap on the Pole, directly into my modem, no splits, no TVs, just internet). I AM NOT PAID NOR HAVE BEEN GIVEN ANYTHING FREE NOR DISCOUNTED -- each of the modems ive listed, i have paid full price for and tested them out of my own curiosity and desire for the best Internet speed/performance. See my attached images for proof of this modems performance.. and comment with any questions and i will reply back. tks netgear for awesome support after the sale too!

Long story short, it solved my issues, and allowed me to keep my fast 305Mbps internet.
This solved my issue. I have Comcast, and I have their 305Mbps plan, for some strange reason their own Modem/Gateway kept dropping me down to 150Mbps, sometimes down to 75Mbps, and I would have to call in and have Comcast send the modem a refresh signal. this was NON -STOP. After working with the local manager and a tech, we thought maybe trying a modem that was not suplied by them may help, Because I also MUST use their "Gateway" in Bridge mode to my router for the services that I use. Not no mention the WiFi In their equipment was always BAD. However, Since getting this installed, took about 15 min on the phone for Comcast to get registered and working, I have NEVER had an issue with losing my speed, or it dropping me to a slower profile, never had any interruption that was not caused by power, or other bigger outage. It just works and works very well. I talked to the Manager just the other day and informed him that this has solved all the issues that he came to my home to talk to me about. and he was happy and surprised at the same time. Because he did not think I would be able to keep the 305Mbps package at all. tried to tell me that they did not support it in my area, but with this modem it work perfect and never had an issue in the last few months since it has been installed. Also this will work with Comcast's new 1Gbps speed that they offer using Docsis 3.1. in my area they only have a 50mbps upload with that package though. And I need more upload. but that is their problem and not the modem. On a side note, the only minor little complaint I have, is the LEDs on this are not very bright and are hard to see when you need to look at them, some people will probably like that as they do not want to see them, but for me it's a slight inconvenience. Not enough of an issue to take a star away. Edit: I wanted to add that I am using the Netgear x10 router with this modem and that seams to be a perfect combination to get the most throughput of speed without adding lag time (ping time) to your connection. I was using another router and i had some issues with the throughput and extra lag. Also make sure the you use Cat5e or Cat6 between this modem and your router. and ONLY use Cat5e if it is a short 3 to 5 foot cord. the higher your speed is, you need better cables. Cat6 is going to be preferred, but 5e will work for short runs. If your have a set up like me and have some long runs going to switches or other equipment in your home, you should use Cat6 on those runs. other wise you will lose some of your speed. not much in the scheme of things, but if you need the low latency and the fast speed, then you need to use Cat 6 on those runs

Actually works compared to Arris SB8200, self activation didn't work, but faster speeds
I've only had this modem a day, but so far so good. My ISP (Comcast) recently bumped up my plan to 200Mbps and my old Motorola DOCSIS 3.0 modem wasn't compatible (at least if I wanted to get the faster speeds). I went to Comcast's approved device list and first went with the Arris SB8200 (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01N6SKK1G/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1). I've used Arris/SuperMicro products before and thought they were pretty solid. However, unbeknownst to me, there are some issues at the local CMTS that prevent the modem from activating properly (some DOCSIS 3.1 OFDM issue, google it). So I returned that one and bought this, the CM1000. I was hopeful that Netgear's firmware wouldn't have the same issue as Arris, and it turned out it did not. I wasn't able to get the self activation working, which is why I gave it 4 stars. I had to call in and wait for them to activate it (26 minute call) and reset it, push new firmware, etc. Eventually the "globe" icon appeared and I had connectivity. I had to reset it once more about 5 minutes after the call and it's been steady since. I went from 140mbps to 210mbps according to most speedtests (speedtest.net, fast.com) just by replacing my modem with the CM1000. The other thing is that this modem is a bit taller than what I was expecting and it doesn't stand on the shelf completely, I had to angle it to fit. Hopefully the larger size is help with heat dissipation. Also, if I'm comparing it to the Arris SB8200, that had 2 Ethernet ports (if you wanted to have two routers or some other configuration). Not that I was going to do it, but was a nice option. PROs: Works with comcast Increases speed from 140mbps to 210mbps (Comcast Xfinity Blast!) CONs: Doesn't have 2 Ethernet ports like SB8200 Self Activation didn't work, had to call in Bit too tall to fit on my cabinet shelf

Easy to set up, good modem all around
Review of Netgear CM1000v2. I got a notice from my internet company, xFinity, that I should upgrade my old DOCSIS 3.0 modem to a newer 3.1 version. Even though my internet package only gets me up to 59Mbps, nowhere near the gigabyte speed offered by the new modems, I decided to replace my old modem anyway, since I was starting to get more internet outages over the past few weeks. I figured the older technology maybe wasn't being supported as well on the network, and I had to keep resetting my modem and waiting for connectivity to come back again. Installation was pretty easy. 1. First, unplug old modem from power, cable and ethernet. 2. Plug all of those into the new modem and wait for all the lights to stay on, which can take up to 10 full minutes. 3. Go into the xFinity app on your phone, log into your account, then tap Account, Activate xFi Gateway or Modem, Your Own Modem, Start Activation, then follow prompts from there. You will need to enter the MAC address, which is printed on the bottom of the modem. It may take another 10 minutes after activation for you to have internet access. All worked well for me and there were no problems. Modem has been working flawlessly for the past few days since I set it up. As I said, my plan only gives me up to 59Mbps, and that has not increased with this modem. It will only increase if I change my plan to a higher speed plan. But, I have a newer technology modem now that is at least ready for future speed increases should I choose to pay for that, and this DOCS 3.1 modem may have better security and more compatibility with the xFinity network. Things I like about it: 1. It has an on/off button on the back. VERY handy for resetting the modem. Much more convenient than having to pull the power plug then struggle to get it plugged back in while in a tight, dark space behind the modem. Many modems do not have an on/off button. 2. The lights are easy to see, but not too bright. On my previous Arris modem, the lights were overwhelmingly bright and flashing, so much that you could hardly read what their function was. These lights are much better. 3. The form factor is good; thin and tall, with a sturdy base. Other note: Some reviewers have said this modem gets HOT. I don't find that to be the case. It is warm, but not really any warmer than any other modem or streaming device I've had, especially one that is on 24 hours a day. Bottom line, this modem is a highly compatible modem for xFinity and all other cable systems, has an on/off button, good form factor, perfectly readable and not-too-bright lights, and is easy to set up.

NO WARRANTY! 1 year warranty from this brand- is useless! I would consider another brand!
READ THIS BEFORE BUYING! This product CM1000 was working fine with only 3 disconnections (where you have to restart the router to get internet back on) during a 4 month period on my Comcast Extreme Plus. After 4 months it quit working. It stoped connecting to the Internet (UP stream and Down stream solid failing to establish connection internet blinking) I spend 2 hours of troubleshooting with Comcast Customer support. We connected another router (the old one that I had it worked fine). I decided to call Netgear Customer support. NOW first of all you will talk to Indian customer support! I had problems understanding their English, as well as they had problems understand mine. The first Indian support guy decided to make a factory reset with me, even I told him I already did. He was trying to explain how Comcast should connect my modem and it's working fine, even I told him I already did this several times! However he was reading instructions so I had to work with him for 1 hour. Then call comcast disconnecting the replacement modem and connecting this one back, just to find out it is still not working. I called Netgear back I spend another 30 min with a woman who speaks English even worser than the first guy. She was trying to first tell me I have done something wrong. Well, I spent 1 hour with your representative on the phone following his instructions, what could I do wrong? Or you think its hard to reset a router to factory? I tell you a secret, If he would just tell me reset to factory- it would take 5 min, not 1 hour. Finally she admitted the item is defective, so she agreed to send me instructions to my email how to send it for repair. When I told I got no email she said the email may be delayed up to 1 day. Serious? It takes 1 day for an email to be sent? Are you kidding? Maybe in India- it is ok this way, in the US when I have an issue- emails from customer service take several minutes to send, in fact I receive them while on the phone. Not with this company. Why do you need a 1 year warranty if you have to go thru this mess? I will update my review upon fixing. Honestly I would rather prefer a return for refund to not deal with this company again, but no such option is provided unfortunately. If this altogether will be not solved during a month period or I will have to pay even a dime for shipping- a proper BBB complaint, Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services complaint and a FTC complaint will be filled. I'm also considering to write a letter to the president administration, knowing he don't like business practices like theses to.

Stable connectivity at last!
I tried repeatedly upgrading or exchanging the Arris cable modems provided by my Spectrum internet service provider in an attempt to resolve an issue with my internet bandwidth dropping. Each time the issue would go away for a few weeks, but eventually it would crop back up again. Basically my service (in a rural area) would go from 495/10 (down/up) to 90/10. Neither is great, but one is much better than the other! I finally decided to try buying my own cable modem and, to my surprise, the issue has been fully resolved with the speed holding stable ever since. (I am using a Unifi dream-machine and it automatically runs and records the results of a speed test each day). I will add that swapping the equipment through Spectrum was relatively easy using their app-based form. All in all easy to swap and worth the cost for stable connectivity!
