Devices for testing USB circuits in small quarters.

These little devices are a real boon to do trouble shooting on USB cables and devices. They are quite small but really work well especially for use in small or tight quarters.

Wow what a difference in my Raspberry Pi 3 with the touchscreen.

I am very happy to have found these little break out boards. They work like a charm with my Raspberry Pi 3 Model B and B+ units connected to the 7" touchscreen. Before trying these breakout boards, I would get a low voltage warning on the Pi. No matter what micro USB adapter I tried I had the same issue. What I found worked were these break-out boards and the 100-watt USB cable with the meter. The photo attached is using the USB C adapter for the Raspberry Pi 4.What makes these different is the two resistors. The resistors tell the USB C charger to supply 5 volts at 2 amps or 10 watts. This board along with a good quality USB C cable solved my low-voltage issues.

Works for PD!

There are a LOT of USB C breakouts that don't have the two required pull-up resistors to work right with USB PD (i.e. a USB C - USB C cable). This one is set up correctly, and you'll get 5v regardless of the cable you are using. A+

Add USB-C to almost anything

I used these to add USB-C I/O to a New 3DS XL and convert other things like headphones to the newest standard.

Worked nicely

I picked these up to modify my Elgato Stream Deck Mk1 to make a detachable cord. They are easy to work with and the slim profile allowed me to fit the port into a pretty tight space. Connections are well labeled on both sides of the boards. Soldering connections were straightforward and easy accomplished. I didn't really need 5, but, the price was good enough I don't mind having spares.

Check for shorts before using! Two of five breakout boards had a short between GND and VBUS

Be sure to check for shorts before use! I soldered the included header pins on two of the breakout boards then hooked one of them up to power an addressable LED project but the power adapter immediately turned off. Tried a couple more times and saw the same behavior. I then did continuity checks until I narrowed it down to this breakout board. I carefully checked for bridges between header pins but they were fine. I then tested the other four boards and found one more that was shorted between VBUS and GND. Both went under a microscope and it looks like there may be solder bridges under the socket. I may try applying flux and using hot air to get rid of the bridge but I shouldn't have to.The shorts did not cause any damage due to a quality AC adapter that immediately shut off but others may not.

Just what I needed and work great

These USBC breakout boards are great for using in 3D printed enclosures with microcontrollers. I use them to pass power into the case for charging batteries. This is just a very simple breakout board but suits my needs perfectly
