I have owned a few testers. This one, despite the "sharp" corners, hard plastic and cheap-looking design, works excellent. I drop it and it still works. The display is easy to read. Few buttons. The remote makes a beep right when you connect it if the main is on the other end of the cable (very handy!). It's large enough that you don't lose it easily. This one comes with other remotes. That can be helpful. I GIVE these to my workers and just buy another one. One thing I do is glue an Oring around the power button. That way it doesn't accidentally turn on and wear ou the batteries in my bag. You can afford an Oring and glue. But you should definitely afford this tester.

Okay this is a cheap tester. It is not constructed from quality product. To find a similar product that decently tests length you are paying $300, easily $500 minimum. This is my experience with it. It doesn't have any kind of voltage protection and the whole thing will burn out if you plug it into a POE cable. Pro is that you know right away, I have had more expensive testers only burn out on the 4-5-7-8 pairs but it still burned out so it is useless. So why spend extra money on it. Take care of it and do not drop it, it doesn't like to bounce and I doubt it is waterproof. The length test is not going to be super accurate but will do what you need. This has saved me hours worth of work testing connectors with its length tester. Cable test bad stick length tester on it and find out what end is bad. When you get 80-80-80-3 you probably know its the 3 meter end or 0 if you connect directly to it. That in itself has paid for the tester. Ignore the ranting reviews of people expecting a $1000 product out of cheap or who plugged a POE device into it.

Nice tester but has some shortcomings. It gets the job done but I would not call it intuitive to operate. The instructions were not written by a native englisher speaker. Once you figure it out it's quite simple to use though. While it will test and find miss wired ends, If you have a open on one wire of one pair of utp cable it will show as both wires have an open. The instructions claim to able to tell where the open is in the wire but that is not at all true. I did not test for shorts to know if it could locate the approximate location of the short. It does seem to able to reasonably measure distance in M or Ft but it resets to meters every time you turn it on which is frustrating if that is not what you want. It does have 8 sending units and the unit can tell what unit is connected which is very handy This claims to be able to test for cross talk but I would doubt this claim given how it works This is a simple test tool it does not test for speed or noise but it is also 1/10 or less of the cost of those testers.
