What size rod do you recommend to use with a shimano syncopate 2500 reel?

I use a 7’ medium/light rod with 10 lb test line. Works great for speckled trout and red fish.

Would this reel be suitable for saltwater fishing? If not-what other inexpensive model would be good?

Sure. Depending on what you are trying to catch it would work fine. I have a Sienna 4000FD that I am running 20# braid on (which is the diamater of like 8lb mono) and I will run an 8# floro leader for surf perch from the beach. But my reel would be fine for smaller grade fish (anything under 5lbs) all day. I also upgraded the washers in it to carbon washers which also made a world of difference.

Line weight and capacity?

1. It's dependent on model the 1000 is the smallest and the 2000 is larger and the 3000 is even larger. Since you failed to specify which model I cannot answer this question. 2. For each model listed the specifications are clearly listed for the line weight and yardage. Read much? In my personal case I have the 1000 model. It's listed at about 85 yards with 6lb mono. I have braided line rated at 6lb that is smaller in diameter that most normal mono. (Something like .06mm) with that I get close to 120yards so dependent in the actual diameter of your line you can either have more or less line.
