The attractive nativity design is inscribed on each side with the text: "For unto you is born this day in the city of David a savior, which is Christ the Lord". For more than 250 years these candle holders called (Schwibbogen, Fensterlicht, Fensterbogen, or Lichterbogen) (German) have been part of the Christmas tradition . The first candle arch was made around 1726 out of forged black sheet metal and it was lit by wax candles.
