solid pan
I've had this sauce pan for 8 months now. I was waiting to write a review until I'd been able to use it a good bit. First some background as to what others I have used. 0) lost track of what all I used growing up and as a college student. 1) used to use a revereware steel set with heat plate on the bottom. It was ok. Got rid of that due to someone in the house winning a nicer set of cookware. 2) calphalon hard anodized set. This was a nice pan. Even heat. Got rid of that due to getting rid of the person in the house who had won it. 3) some walmart cheap ($10) stainless steel thing with a glass lid that had very thin sides and resulting poor heat conduction up the sides. Also the handle got really hot I finally got totally fed up with the walmart pan and bought this all clad stainless steel pan. The difference in quality and performance is quite substantial. Of everything I've used, this pan performs the best. The handle stays comfortable to the touch. Heat is quite even and easy to control. I have a gas range and the combination is really quite nice. I've used this for simple things like hot chocolate and find it quite easy to not scorch stuff (not true on some of the others I've used in the past). Same thing for simmering smaller quantities of sauces (home made pizza sauce for example). Besides performing like a champ in terms of heat control and even heat, the pan is solidly built. I have every expectation that one day my kids or grandkids will be flipping a coin to see who gets Dad's/Grandpa's sauce pan. I used to look at prices on All-Clad and think it was pretty darn expensive and not for me. It still isn't cheap, but it is so nice to use something that works really well and also something that I know will last a lifetime. I plan on replacing some of my other cookware with items from this line in the future. ------------------------- update; It has now been 5 years and we still love this pan. My only complaint, and with this item you have to search for anything at all to complain about, is that the edge is straight all the way up and so I spill stuff sometimes when pouring into something else. As a note, the D5 all-clad series has a slightly rounded upper edge that solves that too. Even with this minor complaint we still love it and wouldn't even dock it 1/2 star. I'd guess it gets used on average 2x per week so we've probably used it ~500 times now. Looks like new, performs like a champ. Even, controlled heat. No hot spots or cold spots. Our use has been almost exclusively stove-top so I can't comment on the oven use.

Excellent product.
I've had this pot for almost 3 months and have been very satisfied. This was a risky buy due to the price of the pot, but it turned out to be the perfect size and of excellent quality. The handle is "permanently attached" using two large bolts that go through the base of the handle and the body of the pot. Despite being a little thin and a little long, the handle is an adequate size and it's size made easier by the length of the handle. While I don't foresee myself breaking the handle off, the handle is thinnest at the base where it meets the body. Since this purchase I have researched the brand a little closer and found some interesting user feedback. A lot of reviews on the saute pans complain of discoloration or sticking with a difficult cleaning process. I haven't had any of these issues and the instructions state to heat the pan, then add oil and then add food. In following this (very basic and very common) practice I've generally preserved the surface of most of my pans. In regards to this product it has been easy to clean every time. The instructions also mention not to hit the hot pan with cold water from the tap as that could cause warping that isn't covered by the lifetime warranty. Regarding warping, some sale items from All Clad had reviews stating that their product wasn't balanced. Many had photo evidence of the pan not sitting flat on the counter or the burner - this was not the case with my product. It is perfectly balanced and sits flat on any surface that is also flat. All in all, an excellent product to keep an eye out for when on sale but be wary of where those sale items are coming from.

Quality cookware
Beautiful pan and heats evenly. This was my first purchase of All-Clad D-3 and I only purchased one piece so I could try it. This is the cookware recommended by America’s Test Kitchen and I can definitely see why. I love the piece for the construction and I believe it will last a lifetime. However it is quite a bit heavier even when empty than my previous stainless steel cookware which only had the aluminum encapsulated disk on the bottom. That fact may deter me from purchasing more to replace my existing pieces which are perfectly fine. If I were younger I would do it in a heartbeat and highly recommend this cookware.

Super
I don't buy pan sets. I buy what I KNOW I will use. This little guy works for soup, primarily the dashi for udon noodles and tomato sauce for pizza. Perfect for two. My preference is stainless for acidic foods and cast iron for the rest. All-clad has been one of the kitchen standards for me for years and has never failed. Easy to clean with Barkeeper's Friend or just a long soak. It isn't suited for everything, nothing is. Some complain of the weight, well, that's thermal mass that is needed for heat distribution. Some don't like the long handles, well, that's called not needing an oven mitt to prevent burns. If I can stir a pan of bubbling risotto for 45-50 minutes without the threat of burns from the handle over an open flame, I call that good.

A great pan
I own two of these now. The newer one has a few minor changes, which make no sense. One is a smaller hole in the handle for hanging. Why the change? The second is the handle itself, it is slightly different. Again, why the change? Change for the sake of change is pointless. This is the main reason for the 4 star rating. Now, the pan itself is no different, really. And in using this for the past few months, it is proving to be true to its reputation. Sturdy, even heating and overall very satisfying to use. I own some MC2 pans as well, two 2 quart pans and a saucier; they are just as effective as the stainless - and cost less. I bought this particular pan on sale for the price of a typical MC2 version. Just wait for a sale if you must have the stainless finish. Do not buy at full pop. I saved fifty bucks being patient.

All-Clad Quality Wins
I purchased this after reading countless reviews and recommendations. Americas Test Kitchen put a number of sauce pans through rigorous trials and this came out their winner. I have had it for a few weeks now, and absolutely love it. The handle though not the most comfortable in your hand allows for a sturdy grip with a full pot.

works great on Induction
Best medium saucepan I ever bought. 3 ply solid and very well made. easy to clean and a joy to cook with. I will be handing these down to our kids, and they will in turn hand them down to theirs. Don't skimp and keep buying stuff you will throw out every few years and instead pay a bit more and buy this pan and/or set of D3 like we did and you will have a lifetime of great enjoyable cooking. We bought the D3 set but wanted another medium pan so bought this. very happy.

Wonderful pots
Excellent product, highly recommend. Very good on my induction stove. Heat up really quickly and are excellent for “waterless” cooking.
