Having left one uncapped for 45 minutes and recapped it moments ago. Will it recover?

I had this happen as well. I wet it slightly with warm water and it recovered, but was not the same. Good luck.

Can they be stored upside down or just horizontally?

I have had no problem with them right side up, upside down or laying flat. Important to keep the cap on when not in use even for a minute. It will extend the life of the pen.

Are these made for dry erase boards? Do they erase like dry erase markers?

Yes, they work on dry erase boards. They don't erase like normal dry erase markers that smudge when touched. You have to use either the eraser on the pen cap or something wet to erase it.
