And id also like a much more padded mat on a carpet floor it might work perfectly but i have a wooden floor and so it just doesnt give quite enough padding. The reason i didnt give it a full five stars is because i feel like the pictures don't give an accurate representation of the set. Now this could be because japanese homes are traditionally small. If you have a big living room this is going to feel a little out of place as it's NOT going to take up as much room as youd think. I would recommend get 2-3 if you plan to make it a staple to your living room in an american home. Now i do think it can work as its own stand alone piece as long as its communicated effectively. Positives the cushions are actually pretty comfortable and i could see myself still relaxing and using it as personal relax area and once you get a kotatsu it'll be a nice little chill spot in your home.
