Garmin bricked android app support with update on June 11, 2025
Do not buy if you plan on using 3rd party android applications that Garmin said these devices support. Because as of June 11 they released an update that removes that support, now 3rd party apps will no longer work. Per press releases, Garmin is preparing to move to a subscription based maps model. Their website still touts the ability to side-load android apps, but they just released a patch to remove it entirely for existing devices. Per my distributor all new devices are being shipped with said patch so it is included out of the box removing android app support. And per the developer of a few of the apps I've used on the device, the patch "intentionally" bricked 3rd party app support in a manner they cannot work around. Garmin devices have always been riddled with issues and generally unstable with a user interface and apps that are outdated. But the selling point of the Overland justifying the premium price was the ability to run 3rd party apps that have features they do not provide. So now after years of my garmin apps never working right (including the iridium sat tracking and SOS) but the third party apps working flawlessly, they removed that capability entirely. Any 3rd party app like DMD2 (I used it for the ODB2 and TPMS option) no longer works. Same with other apps like Gaia GPS, or Locus maps, will no longer work. I can't even run Adobe Acrobat to be able to view owner or service manuals on the device so I have them for roadside repairs on my vehicle in the backcountry. Typical corporate bait and switch! Shame on Garmin for being so insecure to adopt these kind of anticompetitive practices destroying the advertised functionality for apps that worked better or provided option than their their own native apps. Just accelerating their end in the off-road GPS market! Goodbye for good Garmin, time to buy the foreign made devices that actually listen to and respect customer needs!

Need computer app
Still learning how to use appears to be real quality built. Interacts with mobile phone app. Just wish they had an app for laptop to plan trips and routes. Thats why 3 stars.

Won't charge after two months
The device won't charge after two months. I called Garmin, and they said they would send me the replacement after 30 days (They are out of stock now). I asked to return this item to Amazon, which will be a 20% restocking fee. This device cost me $1400 with tax included, and I cannot use it. Also, the device has a super basic android UI, poorly designed and overpriced. I will never buy Garmin products again.

It is a shame it does not have voice control
To me, the screen is the best Garmin has ever produced. This apparently new high-definition screen is much brighter than other Garmin screens and has incredibly good map detail. The only drawback to this GPS is that the unit does not have voice control. That is what brought my rating down and the reason I returned it. I felt the lack of voice control was an efficiency and safety issue. It seems odd that Garmin would not include their excellent and proven voice control technology in this unit. If they did, to me it would be the best GPS ever made. Perhaps they will include that feature in the future.

No Free topo maps included
States in the listing and on the box free topo maps of north and South America With free subscription to Birds Eye I was deeply saddened when I tried to use it and it couldn’t connect so I check the birdseye website and it’s been discontinued for about a year Absolutely worthless offroad if you cannot see the terrain Still shows trails but it’s just a line no details what so ever
