This is just. few of the tools he has used. There is so much more to be discovered. This book will give you a great view of some of his work over the last fifty years. A great buy. Review: Wonderful book with beautiful photos of David Hockney's work. - I first learned about David Hockney's work in an article with photos about him in Architectural Digest. I went to his exhibit at the Los Angeles MOMA and I've been a huge fan ever since. The museum provided portable Walkman type tape recorders with a recording by David Hockney discussing his work and his use of primary colors for this particular series of work. It was fascinating and gave me my first real understanding of paintings. I had my children with me and they just wanted to leave so I did not get to exhibit gift shop to buy a book of the exhibit. Whenever I see any opportunity to get a book of his works I buy it. I'm very happy with this book. If you are a David Hockney fan, I highly recommend this book.

Nature at Its Spiritual Best!
David Hockney's unique grasp of nature presents to us a Godly world of eternal abundance; in which humanity can find its true place in delight and celebration of the "Ever-Present One". And I can personally tell you that, should you purchase this book, you will not regret it! For, time and time again you will come back to it, to refresh your spirit. Especially in today's cynical and materialistic world, rife with big lies, and a media constantly pelting us with (1984 style) political propaganda! In contrast, the visions in Hockney's precious book will be a clarion call to Live Love, Seek Peace, and be Humbled by the great Natural Blessings God has provided.

This is a terrific book - expensive but really worth the money
This is a terrific book - expensive but really worth the money. The prints are beyond excellent - they're really superior and just draw you in almost to the point that you would be drawn in if you were standing in front of the works hanging in a gallery or a museum. And even though I'm a huge Hockney fan there are quite a few prints in this book I'd never seen before. And another real plus is that you're only reading Hockney's comments about his work, rather than someone else's. I also recommend the seller from whom I purchased the book - SRH Booksellers. The book was securely packaged and arrived in perfect condition, but beyond that, the seller enclosed a lovely handwritten card assuring me that if I wasn't satisfied for any reason, I would be refunded the total amount. Personalized service and contact with an actual human being is always a good thing, right? =)

then you will be more than pleased to have this handsome new edition
If you appreciate David Hockney's paintings and did not buy this book when first published in 2004, then you will be more than pleased to have this handsome new edition. As a retrospective of Hockney's output to that date I fail to see how it might be improved. The generous collection of his paintings is well presented in glorious colour on good quality paper, and at a very reasonably price. The range and quality of Hockney's output is on show here with all its brightness, invention and sensitivity. Of course he has continued to produce new works, which could probably fill another volume. But this remains a handsome introduction to the art of perhaps our greatest living painter.

Hockney's art through Hockney's eyes
This book is a very complete compendium of David Hockney's output up to 2004. Its main asset is the quality of the illustrations, some of which are accompanied by a short commentary by the artist. Divided into four chapters ( chapter 1, entitled "problems of depiction", deals with the artist's various series on theater stages, water, movement, how to adapt to a moving viewpoint, the problem of styles, etc; chapter 2 entitled "life stilled", dwells on home, life, still life, love; chapter 3 tackles portraits; chapter 4 studies space and light) it has very little text and leaves it to the reader, or rather, to the spectator to interpret all the works (which, in my opinion, is not a bad idea for an art book). Probably the best available on this major artist.

HOCKNEY Changed My Life
I was introduced to David Hockney in 1987 as a 7th grader. My father was a painter and took me out of school to go down to LA to see Hockney's exhibit as a reward for getting straight A's on my report card. Not exactly what I would have chosen to do as a 7th grader, but the show had a profound influence on me and I'm grateful to my father for expanding my world and exposing me to something that had a greater meaning than what most people would say is just a painting hung on wall.
