Does it require a separate battery charger?

It has it's own battery which plug into an ac outlet to recharge and it also has an 11 foot cord which plugs into your car's dc adapter. You not need a seperate charger. Just plug the cord into the battery and into an ac outlet.

Can you use it for a Presta bike tire valve if you have an adapter for attaching? Or might it be too powerful causing quick tire overinflation/damage.

It works with a Shrader valve (the all time original). I'm guessing with an adapter it should work. That info should be in the description of the product. The pressure can be adjusted which should also be in the product's description.

does it come with charger

Yes. The battery comes off just like a standard power tool, but has a port in it for the charger plugin. It says not to overcharge, that is don't leave it connected for days on end. The charger light turns from red to green when charged. Despite the negative comments, it works well on car tires or bicycles for awhile before needing recharge. I don't particularly like the screw on hose connection, as when you unscrew, some air leaks out, but not much - prefer quick disconnect but didn't see an alternative anywhere. The easy portability is the main feature and digital shutoff.

Readout on pressure gauge says err. what do i do next

Hold down the middle button for a few seconds, turn off ,turn on and set at desired pressure category. If err, try 3rd button or 1st button. Bradley R
