Honest Review from Media Producer
I did a ton of research on this camera prior to purchasing it, I read and watched a lot of reviews online, and can say that this camera performed great on set. You should watch the videos and understand the limitations - I am using this camera as an alternate camera for documentary shoots - I use it for a super wide angle on the subject/entire set. After watching the reviews and hearing about the grainy video, I was super attentive to this issue - yes in low light the camera is not broadcast quality (fine for home movies/personal use), however on a professionally well-lit documentary set the camera most certainly a broadcast quality camera and can be a great asset to the filmmaker. You also need to be careful about the field of view settings, and to achieve true 4k recording it needs to be set on the widest field of view. Again, if you research and understand the limitations of this camera and use it on a professionally lit set, you will have zero issues.

You are not buying this camera for the best video quality, but the sound is fantastic.
I purchased this to record our performances. We can plug our stage microphones directly into the camera which eliminated the noise from the audience. The multi-directional microphones on top work great if you want to pick up everything. They are too good if you only want the performance. Like others have said, you are not buying this camera for the best video quality, but the sound is fantastic.

OVERHEATED & SHUT DOWN_LOW LIGHT VIDEO QUALITY SUCKS - BUT!
New Update: I was recording and my studio which was 81° fahrenheit. After about 40 minutes or so of recording the unit shut down because it overheated while I was recording, holding it in my hand. It's never done that before so I assume that holding it in my hand increased the internal temperature. I recorded while holding it in my hand before but my room wasn't this warm when I did. I imagine you can't use it outside on a hot day if you're going to hold it in your hand. Or if it's in direct sunlight. That's not good! Amazon will not let me return it since it was 3 days over the return policy. Oh well I guess I'm stuck with it now! Update to below: I recorded some footage tonight, using INDOOR setting and mounted on a tripod - no movement. Camera and microphone did pretty good. I think I'm going to end up giving it some more time before returning and I feel as if I may end up keeping it. Below is my previous rant: My title says it all. I tried all the video settings, Indoor, Nighttime, Concert and Auto. Auto was the worst. My room is dark in color with wood stained ceiling. I run 4 - 40w uncovered Fluorescent Tubes in the room so maybe that's not enough light. It wasn't consistantly grainy but there were shots in different areas of my studio that got grainy, like recording the wood floor. I'm strongly debating sending back to Amazon who originally sent me what appeared to be a used or open box camera because the display had what appeared to be fingerprint smudges. Not meant to be held but you can. No hand strap for holding and not dropping. No neck strap. No carry bag. No power adapter. A lot of cut corners by ZOOM! I would have paid $50.00 more for better video quality. I'll send this back and wait for the hopefully new improved model.

Great All around cam. SPECTACULAR audio functionality and quality.
With competing products well I to the $1000 range, this thing ROCKS! Audio connectivity is great with the built-in dual XLR ins. Stupendous value. Others have remarked on less than stellar video quality. I am Not seeing that at all! Output is superb.

Worst video camera and quality ever!!!!!!
This camera has the worst video quality I have ever seen. How can this be 4K video??? It is so grainy and so terrible in lowish light. We need to record music solos and when we do and the lighting is home lights it looks like a video recorded on the first cell phone. The audio is good, but it isn't that much better than a phone. It is such a disappointment. Plus, you can't zoom, the brand is zoom but you can't zoom in your video you can only select 4 present widths for field of view. This is a horrible video camera.

Highly overrated product; very average video and audio
I play in a classic rock cover band and while we've been able to shoot good videos of our shows, the audio has been hit-or-miss. Sometimes a camera with a built-in microphone would capture good audio and other times not. I looked around for some consistency in audio reproduction and after doing some research, decided to purchase the Zoom Q8n-4K. The camera is very small and portable. At the same time, it's got a hefty feel to it, even though it's made of plastic. After reading the start-up instructions that came with the camera, I was easily able to set it up, insert the battery and an SD card and I was ready to go. I used it at a gig just a few days ago. I recorded two of our three sets, turning off the camera between sets. The next day, I attached the camera to my desktop to download the video. Because the video is in .mov format, I was able to view the video on my desktop screen prior to downloading it. The video didn't seem as clear to me as one of my several years-old GoPro cameras ( I was recording 1080 quality video at 60 frames/second). The next disappointment was downloading the video from the camera to the desktop. Because the camera doesn't break up the recording into handy 2-4 gigabyte sections, I had to download two hours of video to my PC, which took maybe 90 minutes. Then, when I downloaded the very large (probably 25 gigs of video/hour) video file into my film editing software, that process took at least an hour. That amount of time is simply unacceptable to me. I don't want to waste an entire day waiting for a large video file to download and process. The audio quality was also just average. Honestly, I've heard better audio captured on my Android phone (and better video quality, too). I've read reviews extolling this product, and perhaps it may suit the bill for other people who aren't recording live rock music, but it didn't work for me. The happy ending for me is that we now have the ability to audio record each show directly from the mixing board into a laptop, where we can do post-production audio tweaking, which is now another reason this camera is of no further use to me. Personally, I cannot recommend this product to you if you're looking for a camera to record live and loud music performances.

Better than average audio. Below average video. Great for music performances
Needed a video camera to record my kids’ music performances. I could’ve used my iPhone but it would kill the battery and take up all my memory. Also obviously I can’t use my phone if I’m taking video. I needed a camcorder that had solid audio first which I’m ok settling for the mediocre video quality. My kids play violin and we’ve been needing to record performances for auditions, etc. the violin sound is crisp and high quality. It’s very focused and clear. When there is a piano accompaniment it’s not as focused. It kind of sounds like it’s just coming from everywhere if that makes sense. I’ve only been recording using the built in mics. I’m sure if I took advantage of the ability to add additional mics that I could get a much better and distinct sound from each instrument. Audio is definitely better than my iPhone 14 Pro. Video does the trick for my needs. Indoor lighting is not enough. Videos are typically grainy and on the dark side. I’m not a professional videographer so I don’t know how to set up lighting to improve video quality indoors. I’m sure if I did then the graininess would improve. When I record outside on a sunny day the video quality improves remarkably. Certainly not even as good as my iPhone but much better than indoors. Battery life is about an hour at 30fps 4k. I usually keep it plugged in while recording just in case. I use a 512gb microsd card. I’d estimate a 10 minute video using these settings takes about 3.5gb FWIW.

Great Little Inexpensive Camera
I've rented this camera from a music rental store to film gigs and it does exactly what they advertise. The reality of the situation is that you probably will need a second and maybe third battery when recording at 4K and 96Khz/24bit. The battery will not last long.... Please keep in mind that I'm talking about recording at the maximum quality settings. It does not have a standard zoom function, but instead a button that changes the view angle & zoom.

Prices is reasonable, for the options it has. Picture quality is low.
Camera has many good futures. Sound is good, if level is at what is recommended in instructions. Playback level is low, needs to be amplified. However for 4K resolution is bad. Unfortunately no optical zoom.
