My backpack 2 way zip slides apart. would this work to "keep" it together? then i’d unhook the 2 zips for access. how easy is it to put on/take off?

I don’t see any reason why it wouldn’t. You could use a small carabiner to hook the two together. I have a smaller Maxpedition pack, and I had no problem attaching these to the zippers. It helps to have a thin pointy tool to help pull it through. But otherwise easy peezie!

Once you replace and install the new zipper pulls are they firmly in place aka there for good?

Yes..They loop back over themselves. They will not come off. At least no more than the original pull.
