Review: Great way to start working out again - Great way to start working out again! I have been doing this video for 3 weeks now after not being all that much into exercise beside housework and a once a week mowing of the lawn in the summer outside normal activities. I remember my mom doing this video when I was young and remembered it was so much fun I would do it with her. Fast forward about 20 years and here I am picking up my own copy! This WILL get your heart rate up and it is fun. The choreography is also doable which makes exercising along even more fun. It's motivating to see all shapes and sizes having fun with me and Richard as always really makes it fun with his excitement and encouragement. I loved working out with Richard so much I have ordered Richard Simmons Disco Sweat ( much much more fast paced) which I highly recommend and also Richard Simmons Sweat and Shout. I have a ball doing his videos. Now 5 days a week I do a Richard Simmons tape and then I also do Buns of Steel with Greg Smithey ( which is intense toning of butt and legs- with little arms and tummy thrown in- 80's headbands, synth and richard simmons style motivation)- I already notice a difference in my clothes. I haven't weighed myself but am letting my clothes do the talking. New Jeans are in my future! It feels great working out with Richard because he makes you feel like you are valuable and worth taking care of yourself. Exercise has now become part of my life and its fun. Give it a try! Review: Fun! - Great fun. A great full body workout in 45 minutes. Great for days when I can't get to the gym.

Just as fun as it was when I was a child
When I was a little boy of 3 or 4 back in the early 90s, this was the hottest selling exercise video on the market. (Well, by that time, volume two and volume three had already been released.) My mom bought the VHS tape (and also the other 2 volumes) so she could exercise to it. I used to love it just for the party atmosphere (the streamers and balloons) and the music. I would watch it practically every day during my preschool years. Years later I dug the tape up again and actually exercised to it and it brought back a flood of memories. I was afraid it would get worn out so I ordered the DVD. I love how it has new interviews by Richard, and even by a few of the people who were in this video. And the picture and sound are restored for excellent quality! Sure it's not a really tough workout, but it actually gets you up and moving, with the upbeat music by the live band, and Richard Simmons' words of motivation. Some of my favorite songs on here are the faster ones in the middle--"It's My Party," "Peggy Sue," "Great Balls of Fire" and "Wipeout." And there are no anorexic super-skinny twigs in spandex working out in this video--there are real people of all different shapes and sizes, in regular clothes. I may workout at the gym but this is fun if you want to do something a little easier, and maybe even lose a few pounds. You will not be disappointed!

Fun exercise
I live in a rain forest and don't always want to take a soaking wet walk so I purchased this first concert to see if I could find an inside workout and I LOVE it. I have a lot of fun dancing to lose weight, I know the songs so it makes it enjoyable for me to dance to and Richard's attitude just puts a smile on your face. AND, about half way through I am sweating and feeling the burn in my 42 year old body!

fun, as exercise videos go
This was an enjoyable video, with real people exercising.... not a bunch of aerobic instructors. As exercise videos go, this was fun, but not too difficult. Three things bothered me about this.... 1) The camera angles. Especially in the beginning (until you memorize what you're supposed to do next), there are parts where you can't tell what they are doing almost until they move to the next step. I wish the cameramman would have stopped trying to be "artsy" and just focus on the exercise. 2) Twice during the video, Richard Simmons has everyone stop and take their pulses without explaining what a healthy pulse rate should be. 3) I feel like the video is a bit too short. At the end, he shows each participant and what they lost, but I wonder if you can really lose 106 lbs from doing this video. However, on a rainy day, when I'm stuck in the house, it's as much fun as exercise can be. The music really is great to dance to, although the over-zealousness of his participants is a little much for me!

Terrific Workout
I bought this a few years ago but didn't use it until this week. I love it. I'm 43 and just started working out. This is a challenge, but it isn't so hard I can't do it. The steps aren't too hard to follow and the live music is great. I love Richard Simmons energy. The cast members come in all shapes and sizes. I'm 20 pounds over weight and it can feel a little overwhelming to look at perfect hard bodies in other videos when your still out of shape. The best part of this video is how much fun it is to do. You're dancing so you don't feel like your working. the time flies. Before you know it 45 minutes is gone and you've done a full cardio workout. Terrific workout. I highly recommend this DVD.

Still One of the Best
Call me silly, but I love these old Richard Simmons videos. They are fun, and they do the job. You get a pretty darned good work-out from doing the whole thing. I had this years ago as a VHS, so was glad to find it as a DVD. I still recommend it. Sometimes the oldies are the best!

You Really Do Sweat
Richard Simmons is someone that I have heard jokes about, and whom I have found hugely entertaining, but I never really knew anything about his exercises. I have now purchased 3 of Richard's videos...Oldies 1 & 2 and Party off the Pounds. Sweatin' to the Oldies 1 is the best of the three for me at this time. It's about 45 min. long, has great music and gets my heart rate up to 144 at it's peak. It is not as heavily choreographed as Party Off the Pounds, making it easier to follow and learn the steps. The music is really good, especially for us Baby Boomers, and I love the prom dance setting with a really decent live band! Where it tops STTO 2, is that it isn't as broken up as 2 is. I do appreciate the weights in 2 and the slightly longer workout, but I find the moving of chairs etc. In 2 to be a little disconcerting. The stretches at the end of 1 are kind of weird. I will be doing my own stretches when it reaches that part. Cardio never gets dated as all that's needed is some good moving, but the science around stretching does change and this stretching seems dated to me. Despite that, I would rate this video as a BLAST!

Still a classic and worth every penny!!
If you like Richard Simmons back in the 80s, you will still love him in the exercise video. This is my favourite go-to exercise video because of him and for being able to do all the moves as easy or as hard as you want/are able and you won't kill yourself doing it. Lol. I had the VHS of this and just HAD to buy it on DVD!

I NEVER GET TIRED OF IT
I had this video many years ago and loved it. For many years it was a part of my exercise routine. I have been looking for it and found it here on Amazon. i am currently in a wheel chair but have begun an exercise program for myself and am slowly gaining back some strength and walking a bit again. i need something that is FUN. This video is. If you like Oldies music you will like this. A band plays in the background and does a really good job in performing the songs. Because I cannot walk very well I am able to modify this video for myself and stay motivated. For a mobile person, the exercises are not too hard but will give you a good work out. He works in a lot of dance moves that are easy to follow.

Got my heart pumping!
Excellent aerobic workout. I was a little disappointed to find out that it was the 20th anniversary version. Same songs, but with different people; still lead by Richard Simmons, though. All I need now, is to be able to do it like I could 30 years ago!
